These vehicles were manufactured May 11, 2017 through February 26,2018. On certain Micro Minnie models, the murphy bed can raise unintentionally if the button strap latch isn’t used properly, and weight is added to the head of the bed. A bed that raises unintentionally could lead to a person becoming trapped in the front compartment area, increasing the risk of injury. Affected Vehicles: MAKE MODEL MODEL YEARS WINNEBAGO Micro Minnie 2017-2018 Repair Information: The remedy is still under development but is expected to be available mid to late December. Once the remedy is complete the instructions will be posted to the Winnebago Dealer Portal. Owner Notification: Winnebago Towables anticipates notifying owners as soon as the remedy is available, which is anticipated to be mid to late December. Owner Precautions: When using the murphy bed, owners should ensure their button straps are securely snapped prior to adding weight to the bed when its in the down position. Dealer Responsibility Do not deliver any subject trailer until corrective action has been taken. All vehicles subject to this campaign are to be serviced at no charge to the owners regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership from this time forward. Notes Important Reminder: It is a violation of federal law for a dealer to deliver a new motor vehicle or any new or used item of motor vehicle equipment (including a tire) covered by this notification until the noncompliance is remedied. A safety investigation and data analysis were initiated. Once the investigation and data analysis were completed, the topic was reviewed by the product safety committee on 10/30/2023. The product safety committee decided that the issue presented an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety. Winnebago is aware of a total of 8 potential incidents that involve a customer adding weight to the murphy bed without latching it in place resulting in the bed raising up unintentionally. In some cases, this led to the customer being partially or completely trapped in the front compartment area. The first known incident that involved a customer becoming trapped was December, 2022. There is 1 known injury related to this issue. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Reimbursement requests will follow the general reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Winnebago Towables will provide a new automatic latching mechanism to replace the manual button strap that was used originally.
