Summary
Alexis Fire Equipment Company (Alexis Fire) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Fire Apparatus vehicles built on Spartan Chassis. A defect in the inversion valve may delay park brake engagement, which could allow the vehicle to move unintentionally. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 121, “Air Brake Systems.”
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the inversion valves as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 20, 2023. Owners may contact Alexis Fire customer service at 1-309-482-6121.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Potential delay in the park brake setting after the park brake valve is activated caused by a defect in the inversion valve utilized by Spartan Motors. The inversion valve was determined to be out of specification but Spartan Motors is still investigating the root cause.
CONSEQUENCE:
If the vehicle has a defective inversion valve, the park brake engagement may be intermittently delayed, not within 3 seconds and fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) number 121 “Air Brake Systems”. This may result in inadvertent vehicle movement and possible injury or crash.
REPAIR PROCEDURE & CUSTOMER ACTION:
We will work with you to contact your local dealer for facilitating the inspection and if your vehicle is found to have the defect, the replacement of the defective inversion valve. There is no cost to the vehicle owner for the recall remedy. The inspection and repair will take approximately 1 hour to complete. To find your nearest dealer, please visit www.alexisfire.com.

customers having the affected vehicles to inspect and replace any defective
inversion valves according to the procedure listed in the provided Spartan
Fire LLC Recall Service Bulletin. Customers will not be billed for the time
necessary to inspect and replace any of the inversion valves on the
recalled vehicles.
