Obstructed Sensor May Cause Unexpected Braking

Summary
Prevost Car (US) Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2024 H3-45 and 2022-2024 H3-45 VIP motorcoaches equipped with Prevost Driver Assist. The radar sensor may be obstructed by an incorrect front bumper trim panel, causing the driver assist system to not function properly.
Remedy
Prevost will inspect and replace the front bumper panel as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed January 24, 2024. Owners may contact Prevost customer service at 1-866-870-2046. Prevost’s number for this recall is SR23-43.

2023-09-12 One field report was received. The field report indicated that two identical MY2024 Prevost H3-45 vehicles, both equipped with Prevost Driver Assist, had different front bumper trim panels. One vehicle had an opening in its trim panel for the radar sensor, while the other did not.
2023-09-22 Internal Prevost investigation was opened to identify the root cause and to determine if the issue is potentially safety related.
2023-10-31 Case was presented on Volvo Product Safety Evaluation Committee (PSEC) to evaluate if there is a potential safety-related issue. It was concluded that further investigation was required to complete the evaluation.
2023-11-14 Case was presented on Volvo Product Safety Evaluation Committee (PSEC) to evaluate if there is a potential safety-related issue. Decision made to raise the potential safety issue to Volvo Product Safety Committee (PSC) for review and determination.
2023-11-21 Delivery Stop was issued to stop the delivery of vehicles until the investigation is completed and corrective actions are implemented.
2023-11-24 Internal campaign was launched to solve the issue on all vehicles in production before being delivered.
2023-11-29 Case was presented to Volvo Product Safety Committee (PSC). It was concluded that there was a safety-related issue and that a recall is needed.
2023-12-01 Defect Information Report submitted to authorities.

Description of the Defect : On certain vehicles equipped with Prevost Driver Assist option, the radar
sensor may be obstructed by an unsuitable front bumper trim panel.

Description of the Safety Risk : The unsuitable panel may impair the proper operation of the Prevost Driver
Assist system. For instance, the unsuitable panel may prevent Prevost Driver
Assist to detect obstacles and automatically engage the braking system as
intended, or it may initiate an unexpected brake application without an actual
roadway obstacle. These potential malfunctions could increase the risk of a
crash.
Description of the Cause : During the vehicle manufacturing, a trim panel without an opening for the
radar sensor may have been installed by Prevost.

Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : Prevost will inspect and, if required, replace the front bumper trim panel
with a panel that includes an opening for the radar sensor on all
potentially affected vehicles. Letters will be sent to customers to inform
them on how to proceed. Prevost will execute this correction free of charge
(parts and labor) for the customers. In case a customer has already
inspected and corrected this defect before the safety recall has been
launched, this customer will be reimbursed according to Prevost
reimbursement plan.
How Remedy Component Differs
from Recalled Component :
The issue concerns an unsuitable component that was installed on certain
vehicles, and not a defective component. After the remedy, all vehicles will
be equipped with a trim panel that includes an opening for the radar
sensor.
Identify How/When Recall Condition
was Corrected in Production :
The recall condition was corrected in production on November 24, 2023,
when an internal campaign was launched. All vehicles are corrected prior
to delivery.
