Description of Defect :
Description of the Defect : GILLIG had determined that the fuse rating of the mirror control switch module
may be inadequate to ensure appropriate protection. As a result, GILLIG has
decided to voluntarily initiate a safety recall campaign of the vehicle population
that may be affected by the issue.

Chronology :
09/09/2022 A mirror adjuster failed on a customer vehicle with heavy smoke observed.
09/22/2022 The failed component was sent to the supplier of the adjuster (Safe Fleet) for inspection. GILLIG
continued to monitor for other failures potentially similar to the one reported.
03/17/2023 Two (2) additional field failures were reported to GILLIG. The failed parts were sent to the
supplier for further investigation.
06/30/2023 The protection fuse was determined to be a possible cause of the thermal damage experienced
by the switch. It was proposed to lower the rating of the protection fuse from 5A to 1A.
From 06/30/2023 to 11/22/2023 while the supplier worked on a permanent corrective action, GILLIG
initiated an internal warranty analysis to determine the vehicle population that may be potentially affected by
the issue.
11/22/2023 GILLIG completed population analysis and identified a total of 3626 vehicles potentially affected
by the defect.
11/27/2023 GILLIG’s Safety Committee decided to file a formal Safety recall to repair the vehicle population
affected by the issue.

Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : All vehicle owners involved will be notified of the recall and all affected
vehicles will be corrected at no cost to the customer. Gillig will cover all
costs incurred by the customers for any prenotification repair in accord
with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA.
How Remedy Component Differs
from Recalled Component :
The corrective action consists of a modified switch that incorporates a 1A
protection fuse
Identify How/When Recall Condition
was Corrected in Production :
Gillig implemented factory containment on 10/28/2023. Any vehicle built
after this date is not affected by the issue.
Recall Schedule :
Description of Recall Schedule : Recall notices will be sent as soon as NHTSA approves the draft letter.
GILLIG does not have a dealer network. Therefore, dealer notification is
not required for this recall.
