Summary
Braun Northwest is recalling certain 2020-2021 Northstar ambulances. In the event of a short circuit or wiring failure, the firmware in the vehicle multiplex system may fail to shut off the output pin, resulting in overloaded electrical circuits.
Remedy
Braun Northwest will update the firmware, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed January 10, 20224. Owners may contact Braun Northwest customer service at 1-877-344-9990.

We received initial notification from Weldon of their recall on 12/13/23. After communicating with Weldon regarding the affected products we have purchased and cross referencing that information with our records to identify the affected cars we have delivered we are now filing our recall.

Descriptive Information : This recall is being filed in response to recall 23E-084 by Weldon for their V-Mux 8×16 I/O Nodes. After receiving the recall notice Weldon sent a list of units they had sold us that were under the recall. This list was cross referenced against our records to identify affected vehicles. Based on this we have identified two units that are in need of repair.

Description of the Defect : The defect is in the Weldon 8×16 I/O Node that is used in the electrical control system for the patient compartment and emergency lighting systems.
The electrical current sensing calibration was not produced to specification so that the firmware would not shut off the output pin under a short circuit caused by external load or wiring failure.

Description of Remedy Program : Weldon has provided updated firmware that corrects the incorrect
calibration. We will work with our customers to either provide the updated firmware or coordinate for a service tech to install the required firmware update for them free of charge. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Firmware V1.00 thru 1.02 are affected. Versions 1.03 and newer are not subject to the recall.
All affected products that were still in our inventory were updated to the current firmware. Recall Schedule :

affected customers.
