Summary
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2020-2024 Coachmen Galleria motorhomes. The battery boost wiring may become damaged, resulting in an electrical short circuit and causing a loss of power steering.
Remedy
Dealers will relocate the wiring to a different lug, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 14, 2024. Owners may contact Forest River Customer Service at 1-574-825-6319. Forest River’s number for this recall is 225-1716.

Chronology :
On December 21, 2023, the manufacturing plant received information regarding a power steering failure with a description of the cause.
On December 26, 2023, the manufacturing plant contacted Forest River’s Office of Corporate Compliance (“OCC”) and a research item was opened. One additional failure was reported.
On January 5, 2023, Forest River’s Corporate Recall Committee voted to recall. A Stop Sale Notice will be issued immediately following the filing of this recall.
On January 5, 2023, Forest River amended the recall to remove Mercedes Chassis Model Years that were inadvertently left in the vehicle scope during the initial 573 filing.
On January 8, 2024, Forest River received a request from NHTSA to amend this recall by removing this sentence in the descriptive information “The only known safety risk applies to the 2019 thru 2022 2X4 and all
2023 Model Year Mercedes Chassis when Mercedes used this lug for power steering.” Amended recall, removed sentence.

Description of the Cause : The battery boost cable was rubbing on the front drive shaft. The zip tie that secures the cable failed. The wire sheathing was compromised causing a short, which disabled the Mercedes electronic power steering. Identification of Any Warning

The original remedy was to move the cable to a different lug. On January 11, 2024, Forest River received an acknowledgement letter from NHTSA asking for clarification of model years affected.
