Summary
Alexis Fire Equipment Company (Alexis Fire) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Apparatus fire trucks equipped with Weldon 8X16 Input-Output nodes. In the event of a short circuit or wiring failure, the firmware in the node may fail to shut off the output pin, resulting in overloaded electrical circuits.
Remedy
Dealers will update the firmware, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed January 22, 2024. Owners may contact Alexis Fire customer service at 1-309-482-6121.

This notice is sent to you as an Alexis Dealer in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Alexis Fire Equipment has been notified by Weldon, a division of Akron Brass Company, of a safety related defect existing in certain V‐MUX 8 x 16 I/O Nodes, Weldon Part Number 6030‐2000‐00 produced between March 10, 2020 and June 14, 2023. Versions 1.00 thru 1.02 are affected. Versions 1.03 and newer are not subject to this recall. As such these vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS). In response the Weldon Division of Akron Brass is issuing a NHTSA Safety Recall No.: 23E‐084 / Manufacturer Recall No.: NR.
Using information provided by Weldon Division of Akron Brass we have located customers in your assigned Alexis territory owning Alexis Fire Apparatus that may contain the defective 8×16 Input-Output Multiplex Node.
The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act requires that each vehicle, which is subject to a recall campaign of this type, must be satisfactorily repaired within a reasonable time after the owner has tendered it for repair. A failure to adequately repair within 60 days after tender of a vehicle is prima facie evidence of failure to repair within a reasonable time. To avoid providing these problematic solutions, every effort must be made to promptly schedule an appointment with each owner and to repair their vehicle as soon as possible. Vehicle owners are being notified of this recall. If the condition is not remedied within a reasonable time, they are instructed on how to contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

REASON FOR THIS RECALL
Weldon, a division of Akron Brass Company, has decided a safety related defect exists in certain V‐MUX 8 x 16 I/O Nodes, Weldon Part Number 6030‐2000‐00 produced between March 10, 2020 and June 14, 2023. Versions 1.00 thru 1.02 are affected. Versions 1.03 and newer are not subject to this recall.
In the affected products, short circuit protection may not function properly. In the case of a short circuit in the wiring or the connected load, overheating of the wiring or the load may occur, and depending on how the product is installed in the vehicle, this could increase the risk of a vehicle fire.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
Alexis Fire Equipment will be notifying customers owning products with the defective I/O Multiplex Nodes and assisting customers in working with Weldon for the free remedy provided through the Weldon service network.
Any completed vehicles that remain at your facility before final delivery may have all the affected 8 x 16 installed nodes updated without accessing the individual nodes or design files using a Weldon service app and the downloader kit. This update is estimated to take 5 minutes.
Weldon will also provide owner notification letters to vehicle owners and will provide a free remedy to units installed on vehicles through the Weldon service network.
DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY
Dealers are to provide to all customers/owner vehicles the service of completing this campaign at no charge to the customer/owner regardless of vehicle age, vehicle mileage, or ownership at the time of repair.
Please note that it is a violation of Federal Law to deliver a new motor vehicle or any item of motor vehicle equipment which is subject to a recall until the remedy has been performed.
