Summary
PL Custom Emergency Vehicles (PL Customs) is recalling certain 2020-2024 Ambulance & Rescue Vehicle Type 1 and Type 3 vehicles. In the event of a short circuit or wiring failure, the firmware in the vehicle multiplex system may fail to shut off the output pin, resulting in overloaded electrical circuits.
Remedy
Dealers will update the firmware, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 15, 2024. Owners may contact PL Custom customer service at 1-732-223-1411.

This letter is being sent to our Dealers to advise that certain PL Custom Body and Equipment Co., Inc. customer vehicles may be equipped with a Weldon VMUX 8 x 16 Node P/N 6030-2000-00, produced between March 20, 2020 and June 14, 2023, that has been subject to a NHTSA Safety Recall. In the affected products, the short circuit protection may not function properly, and an overheating condition may occur. The Weldon records indicate that PL Custom Body and Equipment Co., Inc DBA PL Custom Emergency Vehicles and Rescue 1 received shipments of potentially affected units/nodes. We have supplied Weldon with a complete list of all of our customer names, contact information and associated Vehicle Identification Numbers.
Weldon has advised they will be contacting the customer to advise of the safety recall and potential overheating issue.

As part of the NHTSA requirement of a safety recall, you as the DEALER will need to support this recall with the customer. Assist in the inspection of the node in the vehicle, and provide the S/N to Weldon to determine if they have one of the affected nodes. We have attached a copy of the Weldon recall, the update instructions and two photos to assist in identifying the S/N of the node in the vehicle. If the node in the vehicle does not match the S/N as listed on the attachment, this recall does not apply and no action is required. The node will need to be updated via the Akron 6131-0000-00 diagnostic kit and can be performed by the PL Custom or Rescue 1 Dealer at your location or at the customer location when other service is being provided.
Weldon will be providing a minimal compensation of $50.00 for the update and will not cover travel to and from the customer location. Weldon will be tracking this recall and supplying information back to us at the vehicle OEM. PL Custom will be responsible to file the completion reports with NHTSA. We appreciate your attention to this important safely recall and your cooperation in getting it completed in a timely fashion.
