Breakaway Switch Incorrectly Wired

) is recalling certain 2024 Access travel trailers. The breakaway switch and trailer brakes may not activate when needed due to an incorrectly wired breakaway switch.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the steering gears as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 25, 2024. Owners may contact Peterbilt

Towables has decided that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists on certain 2024 Access models. These vehicles were manufactured October 12, 2023 through January 11, 2024.
On certain 2024 Access models the breakaway switch was incorrectly wired. An incorrectly wired breakaway switch will not engage the trailer brakes in the situation where the trailer becomes detached from the tow vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash in that condition.

Repair Instructions:
Access Breakaway Switch Wiring
Tools Needed: Phillips Head Drill or Screwdriver, Socket and Ratchet Set
REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Using the Phillips bit remove the 2 screws from the cover of the 7-way box.
2. Locate the black wire on the breakaway switch and verify it’s connected to the ground (white) post on the 7-way box.
3. Locate the orange wire on the breakaway switch and verify it’s connected to the input (battery) side of the battery disconnect switch.
Chronology :
In January 2024, Winnebago
Product Safety found a defect in wiring on Access models. The defect was found through dealership warranty submissions. Production was immediately notified, and the wiring was inspected.
Upon inspection, it was determined the breakaway switch wiring was incorrect and the testing equipment experienced a fault setting.
On January 26, 2024 the Product Safety Committee decided the issue presented an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety.
Winnebago
is aware of 30 dealership submissions with no incidents involving a customer. The first submission occurred November 14, 2023.
There are no injuries related to this issue.

Owners should be aware that the breakaway switch may not be working on their vehicle and take extra precaution to make sure their tow vehicle is properly connected to the trailer. Do not deliver any subject trailer until corrective action has been taken. All vehicles subject to this campaign are to be serviced at no charge to the owners regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership from this time forward. Important Reminder: It is a violation of federal law for a dealer to deliver a new motor vehicle or any new or used item of motor vehicle equipment (including a tire) covered by this notification until the noncompliance is remedied.
