Parking Brake May Release Unexpectedly

Summary
Blue Bird Body Company (Blue Bird) is recalling certain 2024-2025 Vision buses. The parking brake secondary release mechanism may malfunction and allow the lever to be released without pressing the release button.
Remedy
The remedy is currently under development. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact Blue Bird customer service at 1-478-822-2242.

Chronology :
January 19, 2024: Orscheln Products, LLC. sorted 18 pcs at final assembly in house. Operation 30 for proper function, zero defects noted. Contacted Blue Bird to advise of potential of this issue on stock we received.
January 20, 2024: Orscheln Products, LLC. contracted a third party to sort (17) School buses in RFD lot at Blue Bird and (18) Park brake levers in Inventory for proper function. Zero defects were noted.
January 20, 2024: Blue Bird identified (64) buses within the suspect range that have shipped from the Blue Bird Facility to dealers and will need to be checked for proper function.
January 21, 2024: Blue Bird PSC determined failure mode to be a safety concern. Recall to be issued.

Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : Dealer or Customer will complete an inspection to verify operation.
Inspection process is to pull on the hand brake lever
three times without pressing the release button to verify if the lever releases without the release button pressed. If lever does not release after three pulls, no defect is present. If lever releases during a pulling event without the release button pressed, the lever is defective and will be replaced with a known good service brake lever
assembly. Blue Bird R24CW will be remedied according to the R24CW Recall Instructions.
If the modifications directed by this notification were performed on your bus prior to the receipt of this recall notification, provide a copy of the work order/invoice to [email protected] for Blue Bird warranty consideration. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Parts are required and will be available, when the recall releases and may be ordered through Blue Bird Service Parts.
Stock received after January 20, 2024. All stock received from January 20, 2024 is verified good stock via Orscheln’s internal corrective actions on the part.
