Pierce

) is recalling certain 2020 Enforcer, 2021-2022 Velocity, and 2023 Saber vehicles equipped with a specific rear bumper option. The bumper may partially obstruct the rear lights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
Remedy
Pierce
will reposition the lights, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact Pierce
customer service at 1-888-974-3723. Pierce

Chronology :
December 21, 2023 – Pierce
is notified that some trucks equipped with a specific rear bumper option may have lamps installed on the rear of the trucks which are in positions that are not fully visible.
January 2024 – Pierce
begins to investigate trucks which were built with this same rear bumper option to better understand the customer allegation. As part of its investigation, Pierce
identified a subset of those vehicles that have rearward facing lamps that would not cast light at the required 45-degree angle inwards to the truck.
February 2024 – Based off its research and effectivity dates for the 45 degree inboard / outboard requirement, Pierce
concludes that a non-compliance exists and files a recall to correct the affected trucks which are in the field.

is not aware of any warranty claims, customer complaints, or incidents that may be related to this issue .

VIN Range 1 : Begin : NR End : NR Not sequential Description of Noncompliance : Description of the Noncompliance : Certain trucks, equipped with a specific rear bumper option were built with rearward facing lamps (brake, turn signal, reverse) that do not meet the luminous intensity requirements of 49CFR 571.108, S6.4.3(b). The lamps are positioned such that when they are activated, the light which they cast will not be visible in a 45-degree inboard direction. FMVSS 1 : 108 – Lamps, reflective devices, and assoc. Description of the Safety Risk : If the required lamps installed on the rear of the truck do not display at the
required 45 degree inboard direction, a vehicle following behind the truck may not have sufficient visibility of the lamps to be able to ascertain the intention of the truck, as commanded by the truck operator (braking, turning, backing up). This may increase the risk of a crash.

Description of Remedy Program : Pierce
will, at no charge to the customer, reposition the affected lamps to
relocate them to positions where they meet the visibility requirements at the required inboard angle. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Once the remedy is performed, the rearward facing lamps will be repositioned so that they comply with the luminous intensity requirement at a 45-degree inboard angle for both sides of the truck.
