Descriptive Information : Faraday Future Eco Sales Co. LLC (Faraday Future) (FF) is recalling certain 2023 FF 91 2.0 Alliance vehicles. The iHUB module incorrectly processes a loss of communication with the Airbag Control Unit (ACU), causing the air bag malfunction indicator telltale light to not illuminate. All FF 91 2.0 Alliance Edition vehicles manufactured between 3/2023 and 12/2023, eleven (11) vehicles in total, are affected by this issue.

Description of the Defect : Faraday Future has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2023 model year FF 91 Alliance vehicles. A software issue exists in these vehicles which would cause the airbag malfunction indicator telltale light to not illuminate in the case of an Airbag Control Unit (ACU) communications fault. As a result, if there is a loss of communication or power to the ACU, the airbag telltale light would not illuminate to indicate a system fault to the driver.

Description of the Safety Risk : A driver will not be warned of an ACU loss of communication fault which
might indicate a problem with airbag deployment. If airbags do not deploy Part 573 Safety Recall Report 24V-173 Page 2 appropriately in a crash, there is an increased risk of injury to occupants in that crash.

On February 12th 2024, a design review of the Airbag Control Unit (ACU) and warning telltale issue was opened following validation testing feedback for a future SW release, where it was reported that conditions involving loss of communication with the ACU did not illuminate the airbag malfunction indicator telltale light. On February 13th 2024, a Product Defect Safety Investigation (PDSI 2024-01) was initiated within the FF Product Safety Working Group (PSWG). On February 26th 2024, the PSWG reviewed additional information and concluded that “Airbag Warning Telltale Not Illuminating” under the condition of loss of communication between the ACU and the iHUB is an “Unreasonable Risk to Safety”. On February 27th 2024, the PSWG findings and recommendation were presented to the FF Product Safety Executive Council (PSEC). The PSEC, at this time, approved a voluntary recall for internal product defect safety investigation PDSI 2024-01 – “Airbag Warning Telltale”. Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : FF will update the software in the vehicle’s iHUB module. FF will schedule
concierge pick up, and redelivery, of the owners’ vehicles to have the updates performed at the FF Service Hub in Gardena, CA.. Alternatively, owners may have the opportunity to accept the software update using FF Over The Air (OTA) technology. Pursuant to 49 C.F.R. § 573.13(d)(1), all covered vehicles are under warranty, so reimbursement will not be offered. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The revised/updated iHub module software will retrieve the data indicating loss of communication with the ACU which will ensure an ACU fault of this type will be correctly communicated to the customer.
Production release of affected vehicles was halted at FF’s Hanford California assembly plant on February 27, 2024. The FF Hanford plant will implement the corrected software when production of the affected models resumes, prior to their release. Recall Schedule :
Description of Recall Schedule : Currently, FF has not activated, and does not currently utilize a “third
party” sales and service network. All sales and service activities are performed at FF’s Los Angeles HQ. All internal sales and service personnel in FF Eco Sales Co. LLC have been notified of this recall. Customer notification is estimated to begin on March 15th 2024.
