Prevost
Car (US) Inc. (Prevost
) is recalling certain 2023 H3-45 and 2022-2023 H3-45 VIP vehicles. The steering column joints may fail, causing a loss of steering control.
Remedy
Owners are advised not to drive their vehicle until the repair has been performed. Prevost
will replace the steering column joints, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 19, 2024. Owners may contact Provost customer service at 1-866-870-2046. Prevost
’s number for this recall is SR24-11.

realized that vehicles equipped with non-qualified joints were potentially delivered to end users. Prevost
initiated an investigation to determine the possible differences between non-qualified and qualified joints.
2024-02-14 Prevost
communicated with the joint supplier to clarify the conditions for using non-qualified joints. The supplier indicated that these components are not intended for installation on vehicles sold to end users.
2024-02-20 Case was presented on Volvo
Product Safety Evaluation Committee (PSEC) to evaluate if there is a potential safety-related issue. Decision made to raise the potential safety issue to Volvo
Product Safety Committee (PSC) for review and determination.
2024-02-29 Case was presented to Volvo
Product Safety Committee (PSC). It was concluded that there was a safety-related defect, and that a recall combined with a “Do Not Drive Warning” are needed.
2024-03-06 Defect Information Report submitted to authorities.

Description of the Defect : Certain vehicles were delivered to end users with non-qualified steering column joints. These joints were not intended for installation on vehicles sold to end users and may potentially fail prematurely. In this eventuality, the driver could experience a loss of steering control.

Description of the Safety Risk : A loss of steering control may increase the risk of a crash. In addition to the Safety Recall, Prevost
issued a “Do Not Drive Warning” for this defect until the vehicles are remedied.
Description of the Cause : The issue results from a Prevost
manufacturing error as the non-qualified steering column joints were not replaced before delivering the subject vehicles to end users. Identification of Any Warning

Description of Remedy Program : Prevost
will replace the steering column joints on all subject vehicles.
Letters will be sent to customers to inform them on how to proceed. Prevost
will execute this correction free of charge (parts and labor) for the customers. In case a customer has already inspected and corrected this defect before the safety recall has been launched, this customer will be reimbursed according to Prevost
reimbursement plan. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The recalled component is a non-qualified joint, while the remedy component is a fully qualified joint.
The recall condition did not need to be corrected in production as the recalled component is no longer installed in vehicles currently being manufactured. Recall Schedule :
