Hazard Warning Lights May Not Illuminate/FMVSS 108
Warning lights that do not illuminate when the ignition switch is in the OFF position can reduce the vehicle’s visibility to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary
Autocar, LLC (Autocar) is recalling certain 2020-2024 DC (Legend) vehicles. The hazard warning lights may not function independent of the ignition switch. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
Remedy
Dealers will update the software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 6, 2024. Owners may contact Autocar customer service at 1-888-218-3611. Autocar’s number for this recall is DC-2402.

Chronology :
June 29, 2023, Autocar personnel discovered the lighting error and investigation began. July 7, 2023, through August 8, 2023, new software was developed and deployed to production for final testing. March 4, 2023, final testing completed. April 4, 2024, all information was presented to Autocar’s management team and Autocar decides to perform a voluntary safety recall for all affected vehicles.

Description of the Safety Risk : Noncompliance FMVSS 108 S9.6.2 Operating unit switch. The unit must
operate independently of the ignition or equivalent switch. If the actuation of
the hazard function requires the operation of more than one switch, a means
must be provided for actuating all switches simultaneously by a single driver
action. If the hazard lighting does not operate it may increase the risk of a
crash.

Description of Remedy Program : Autocar will voluntarily initiate an owner notification and recall of all
affected vehicles. Autocar will distribute to owners of affected vehicles an
Owner Notification Letter, which will describe the defect and provide
instructions for scheduling the inspection/repair of the vehicle at no cost
to the vehicle’s owner. The owner letter will instruct vehicle owners who
have paid to have this condition remedied prior to this campaign to seek
reimbursement pursuant to Autocar’s General Reimbursement Plan, on file
with the agency pursuant to 49 C.F.R. 573.6(c)(8)(i) and 49 C.F.R 573.13.
