Noncompliance FMVSS 108. The hazard lighting may not operate independent
of the ignition switch.
FMVSS 1 : 108 – Lamps, reflective devices, and assoc. Equipment
FMVSS 2 : NR
Description of the Safety Risk : Noncompliance FMVSS 108 S9.6.2 Operating unit switch. The unit must
operate independently of the ignition or equivalent switch. If the actuation of
the hazard function requires the operation of more than one switch, a means
must be provided for actuating all switches simultaneously by a single driver
action. If the hazard lighting does not operate it may increase the risk of a
crash.
Description of the Cause : An Autocar programming error resulted in the hazard lighting not operating
independent of the ignition switch.

June 29, 2023, Autocar personnel discovered the lighting error and investigation began. July 7, 2023, through
August 8, 2023, new software was developed and deployed to production for final testing. March 4, 2023, final
testing completed. April 4, 2024, all information was presented to Autocar’s management team and Autocar
decides to perform a voluntary safety recall for all affected vehicles.
Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : Autocar will voluntarily initiate an owner notification and recall of all
affected vehicles. Autocar will distribute to owners of affected vehicles an
Owner Notification Letter, which will describe the defect and provide
instructions for scheduling the inspection/repair of the vehicle at no cost
to the vehicle’s owner. The owner letter will instruct vehicle owners who
have paid to have this condition remedied prior to this campaign to seek
reimbursement pursuant to Autocar’s General Reimbursement Plan, on file
with the agency pursuant to 49 C.F.R. 573.6(c)(8)(i) and 49 C.F.R 573.13.
