LED Backlight Circuit Board Failure May Cause Fire

Summary
Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain 2022 Bay Star motorhomes. The LED backlight circuit board in the cooktop range may fail, causing the board to overheat.
Remedy
Dealers will disconnect and cut the circuit powering the LED backlights and terminate the wiring, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by May 31, 2024. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300. Newmar’s number for this recall is 610 RSB.

On March 22, 2024, Suburban Manufacturing notified NHSTA of a defect involving slide in range models that contain LED Backlighted knobs.
On April 4, 2024, Suburban notified Winnebago Industries of all potentially impacted shipments.
On April 22, 2024, Newmar was notified that Suburban included slide in range models shipped to Newmar that were part of the Suburban Manufacturing Recall 24E-028

Description of the Defect : The LED backlight printed circuit boards (PCB) are not fully coated on certain Suburban Manufacturing slide in range models. The lack conformal coating in the connection passages between the layers of PCB can allow liquid from the cooktop surface to accumulate which could result in a short circuit resulting in the failure of the PCB.

Description of the Safety Risk : If the PCB fails, it can be come overheated, and the polyethylene cover of the lights can melt and possibly ignite causing a fire.

Description of Remedy Program : Newmar will notify the owner by mail and instruct them to take their
motorhome to an authorized service facility to have repairs performed. Suburban Manufacturing has provided 2 remedies for this issue. The LED backlights can be removed from the range or the circuit powering the LED backlights can be cut and properly terminated. Work repair instructions will be provided by Suburban Manufacturing. All repairs will be at no cost to the customer. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The remedied range will have the LED backlights removed or the circuit for the LED lights terminated.
