Descriptive Information : The recall population is defined by vehicles equipped with Cummins engines built between December 2022 and March 2023 that use a remote secondary fuel filter. These engines use hoses with Cummins part number 6316899 manufactured before April 2023 using a 18.7 mm crimping. There are 52 Nova LFS vehicles MY 2022 through 2023 impacted.

Description of the Defect : The subject vehicles may have been built with fuel hoses for the secondary remote fuel filter that may disconnect.
FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR
Description of the Safety Risk : In the event of a fuel hose disconnection, the engine may shutdown and a fuel spillage outside of the engine bay may occur. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source
may increase the risk of a fire. In addition, an unexpected engine shutdown can increase the risk of a crash.
Description of the Cause : Undetermined at this time, more info to come from supplier.

Chronology :
March 19, 2024 : Nova Bus was informed of fuel line disconnections March 27, 2024 : Nova Bus started an internal Investigation.
March 28, 2024: The issue was raised to the safety forum as a potential risk for evaluation. March 28, 2024: Nova Bus opens a formal potential safety related issue investigation.
April 4, 2024 : Investigation and parts validation initiated with supplier
May 2, 2024: Product Safety Evaluation Committee evaluates and raises to Product Safety Committee. May 7, 2024: Product Safety Committee determination of product defect. Product Safety Committee also determined that owner should be instructed to not drive their vehicles.
May 10, 2024: Nova Bus files 573 with NHTSA that a voluntary recall will be released to address the safety- related defect.
There have been no accidents or injuries related to this defect. There have been 3 warranty claims related to this defect.
Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : Owners will be notified and instructed to not drive their vehicles. Vehicles
will be recalled and the secondary fuel filter hoses will be replaced with the updated part using 18.3mm crimping. All costs associated with this corrective measure will be covered by Nova Bus. Pre-notification remedies will be addressed using the Nova Bus general reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Remedied fuel hoses will use 18.3 mm crimping instead of 18.7 mm crimping. Cummins part number 6316899.
An Internal Campaign was launched to correct vehicles in production April 23, 2024. Recall Schedule :
Description of Recall Schedule : Note: Nova Bus does not have a dealer network and the dates entered for
the planned dealer notification begin/end date are only to avoid NHTSA Recall Portal error while submitting the recall report.
Owner notification will begin on or before July 11, 2024.
