Improperly Bonded Base Rails May Detach
Base rails that detach can cause cargo to shift or fall, resulting in a loss of trailer control and increasing the risk of a crash.

Wabash
National Corporation (Wabash
) is recalling certain 2024-2025 RFCVHSC refrigerated van trailers. The base rails may not be bonded properly and can detach, reducing the structural strength of the trailer.
Remedy
Dealers will install an additional attachment plate, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 04, 2024. Owners may contact Wabash
customer service at 1-765-771-5404.

Chronology :
2/14/2024: Received the first report of baserail separation from the wall. Unit was reassembled, tested and sister units inspected in the field w/no early indications of failure.
2/27/2024: Opened root cause investigation.
3/29/2024: Received the second report of baserail separation from the wall. Unit was returned to the factory for further evaluation.
4/4/2024: Received the third report of baserail separation from the wall. This unit was also returned to the factory for further evaluation.
4/10 thru 4/11/2024: Team evaluation of process controls was performed at the manufacturing facility.
4/19/2024: Bead blast preparation of the baserail prior to bonding was halted. Transitioned back to previous baserail preparation procedures.
5/8/2024: Received the fourth report of baserail separation from the wall.
5/16/2024: Visited the owner of the fourth report to inspect and evaluate sister vehicles.
5/23/2024: The Product Safety Team met and voted to escalate the baserail separating data to the Product Safety Committee.
5/29/2024: The Product Safety Committee met concerning the baserail bonding failures and voted to move forward with a voluntary recall.

Descriptive Information : The procedure for how the baserails were prepared for bonding was changed on 01/03/2023. There have been no reports of baserail separation prior to this date. This suspect procedure was halted on 04/19/2024 and reverted back to the procedure in place prior to 01/03/2023.

Description of the Defect : The baserails installed on certain refrigerated van trailers may become detached while being loaded, unloaded, or during operation

Description of the Safety Risk : Separation of the base rail and side wall could compromise the trailer floor. If such separation occurs while the vehicle in in operation, compromises to the floor could cause a shift or loss of cargo and could reduce operator control of the trailer, increasing the risk of a crash.
Description of the Cause : Due to insufficient preparation of the baserail, the adhesive bond between the baserail and side wall may weaken, potentially resulting in their separation. Identification of Any Warning

Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : An additional surface attachment plate will be properly prepared and
bonded above the existing baserail and mechanically fastened to the upper section of the existing baserail at no charge to the owner. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : An additional surface attachment plate will be visible above the existing baserail.
The procedure for how the baserails were prepared for bonding was changed on 4/19/2024 and reverted back to the procedure that was in place prior to 01/03/2023. There have been no reports of baserail separation prior to 01/03/2023. Recall Schedule :
