Summary

Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Fuzion 429 recreational trailers. The wiring harness to the power center may have been pinched between the floor framing and chassis beam, potentially damaging the wiring harness.

 

Remedy

Keystone will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and repair the wiring as needed, free of charge. The recall began on July 16, 2019. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone’s number for this recall is 19-351.

Fuzion 429 Power Center Wiring

Keystone is conducting a voluntary RECALL notification campaign in accordance with the National Highway Transportation and Safety Act. It has been decided that the vehicles in the recall population may have wiring to the power center that can be pinched between the floor framing and the chassis I-beam. Under certain conditions if the power center wires short to ground it can lead to an increased risk of fire and/or damage to personal property.

Parts Required:	– Self-tapping screws as needed (Purchase locally)
Tools Required:	– Screw gun – Air hammer

 

This Safety Advisory requires a Pre-Authorization & Photograph

Note – Check serial number on Key Express to verify the campaign is open. Some vehicles were repaired before they left Keystone.

When performing warranty or recall service, please make certain that appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used.

The remedy is to drop the underbelly in the area of the main entrance door and inspect the wiring that goes from the frame cavity to the power center. Remove the power center and pull the wiring that comes through the floor to inspect for damage by pulling the wiring approximately 6 to 8 inches. If any of the wiring is damaged and requires repair, submit a picture of the damaged wiring on a Pre-authorization request with time requested for approval.

 

REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1

Locate the trailer on a level, flat, hard surface. Chock the wheels. Disconnect 120 VAC shore line power and disconnect the 12 VDC battery power.

Step 2

Inspect the wheel well area to see if there are any wires between the floor and the frame, Figure 1.

Step 3

Remove the power center from the cabinet and set it in front of the opening. None of the wires need to be removed from the power center to accomplish this step.

Step 4

Inspect wiring that goes in to the floor directly behind the power center opening. Pull the wiring to determine if it is free and not pinched. Wiring can be pulled approximately 6 to 8 inches, Figure 2.

Step 5

Remove the underbelly in the area of the entrance door by removing the fasteners that attach it to the frame. If the underbelly has to be cut, cut it from the door side to the off door side at the cross member so that the underbelly can be easily reattached and sealed, Figure 3. Do not cut it from front to back.

Step 6

Access the wiring bundle next to the frame rail as it passes over the holding tank. Pull the wiring bundle slack back into the underbelly area that was previously pulled in through the cabinet above. Visually inspect the wiring for damage, Figure 4.

Step 7

If no damage is found, reinstall the underbelly and the power center and proceed to Warranty Reimbursement for inspection below. If wiring is damaged, proceed to Step 8.

Step 8

If the wiring is found to be damaged, take pictures and submit for an authorization to make proper repairs. In some cases the outriggers on the door side around the entrance door area may need to be unbolted from the floor and the floor raised slightly to remove any pinched wiring.

Step 9

Repairs to 12 VDC wiring can be made in the underbelly using proper connectors. Any 120 VAC wiring that needs to be repaired will need to have connections made in a proper junction box that can be mounted to the bottom of the floor as shown in Figure 5.

Step 10

After all wiring repairs have been made, reinstall the underbelly and seal, and reinstall the power center. Proceed to Warranty Reimbursement.

Keystone RV Company has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model 2018-2020 Keystone Fuzion Fifth Wheels. As a result, Keystone RV is conducting a safety recall. We apologize for any inconvenience this action may cause you; however your safety and continued satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us.

Reason for this recall	It has been decided that the vehicles in the recall population may have wiring to the power center that can be pinched between the floor framing and the chassis I-beam. Under certain conditions, if the power center wires short to ground, it can lead to an increased risk of fire and/or damage to personal property.
What we will do	Keystone representatives have been in contact with the staff at your selling dealership regarding this situation. The remedy is to inspect the wiring and repair as needed. The service and parts required for this corrective action will be provided at no charge to you.
What we need you to do	As soon as possible, please make an appointment to have your RV serviced by your dealership. The labor time to perform this correction is approximately 1 hour. Please ask your dealer if you wish to know how much additional time will be needed to schedule and process your RV for this repair.
If you have questions	Your dealer is best equipped to obtain parts and provide service to ensure your RV is corrected as promptly as possible. Please contact Keystone Customer service if your dealer is unable to assist or if you take your RV to your dealer on the agreed service date, and the dealer does not remedy the condition within a reasonable amount of time, or without charge to you. You may be eligible to receive reimbursement if you paid to have the defect resolved prior to receiving this correspondence. Keystone Customer Service is available toll-free at 1-866-425-4369.
