Tire Placard Missing Information
The lack of information on the Tire Placard may lead an owner to unintentionally install the wrong size spare tire, affecting the vehicle control and handling, increasing the risk of crash.

Summary
Airstream, Inc. (Airstream) is recalling certain 2017-2020 Basecamp trailers. The Tire Placard is lacking the trailer’s spare tire information. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, “Tire Selections and Rims.”
Remedy
Airstream will notify owners, and will provide corrected labels, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 23, 2019. Owners may contact Airstream customer service at 1-877-596-6505 or 1-937-596-6111 extension 7401 or 7411.

Problem:
The affected travel trailers covered in this recall have missing spare tire information from the Federal Certification Label and Tire Placard.
RANGE OF VEHICLES INVOLVED:
2017-2019 Basecamp Travel Trailers built between 5/3/2017 and 6/20/2019.
Serial number range: 203002 to 205000.
Note: Because our VINs do not run in a contiguous series, there will be trailers in the VIN range that are not affected by this recall
WARRANTY REIMBURSEMENT:
A notice of this recall has been sent to affected retail owners. A copy of the Owner’s letter is included for your review. The customer may request that you complete the repair. If so, please follow the warranty reimbursement procedure. If a unit and/or units are in your inventory, or if you are requested to perform the repair for the retail customer, please complete the advised repair and send in a warranty claim referencing this recall number for reimbursement. The time allowed for repair is 0.20. Use operation code TTSBR8371100.
SERVICE ACTION:
Replace incorrect labels with updated tire information labels.
Process:
Clean area with alcohol, place new labels over incorrect labels.
Equipment needed:
- Alcohol (preferably denatured alcohol)
- Cloth Rag
- New Labels
Labels will be provided
Step 1: Start by locating the labels that need to be changed. They will be on the roadside (driver’s side) of the vehicle near the underbelly wrap
Step 2: Wipe directly over the existing labels with the denatured alcohol to clean the area.
Step 3: Remove the new “Manufactured By” label first and place it over the same label on the trailer.
Step 4: Remove the new “Tire and Loading Information” label and place it over the same label on the trailer. You can discard the rest of the labels.

Airstream has decided that a compliance issue which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2017-2019 Model Year Airstream Basecamp travel trailers. As a result, Airstream is conducting a safety recall.

The corrected Federal Certification Label and Tire Placard along with a how-to have been provided with this letter. For any reason you do not feel comfortable completing this task, please contact your nearest Airstream dealership for assistance. |
