Incorrectly Wired Breakaway Switch

Keystone
RV Company (Keystone
) is recalling certain 2020 Crossroads Hampton and Sunset recreational trailers. The breakaway switch may have been incorrectly wired, which can cause the trailer brakes to not function in the event of a trailer separation from the tow vehicle.
Remedy
Keystone
will notify owners, and dealers will rewire the breakaway switch, free of charge. The recall began July 29, 2019. Owners may contact Keystone
customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone

Hampton – Sunset Breakaway Wiring
Keystone
is conducting a voluntary RECALL notification campaign in accordance with the National Highway Transportation and Safety Act. It has been decided that the vehicles in the recall population have a breakaway switch that is nonfunctional. Under certain conditions during travel, if the trailer becomes detached from the tow vehicle, the breakaway switch will not activate the brakes leading to an increased risk of personal injury.

Note – Check serial number on Key Express to verify the campaign is open. Some vehicles were repaired before they left Keystone

When performing warranty or recall service, please make certain that appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used.
The remedy is to inspect the installation of the breakaway wiring at the Bargman 7-way box mounted on the drawbar frame. If needed, move ring terminal from the charge line to the blue brake wire terminal.
REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1
Locate the trailer on a level, flat, hard surface. Chock the wheels.
Step 2
Disconnect the 120 VAC and 12 VDC power sources.
Step 3
Remove the cover to the Bargman 7-way distribution box and inspect the installation of the breakaway wire. See Figures 1 & 2.
Step 4
If the breakaway wire is connected to the black charge line, remove it and install it on the blue brake wire.
Step 5
Test the breakaway by briefly pulling the breakaway plunger.
PLEASE NOTE: pulling the breakaway plunger for an extended period of time can cause damage to the braking system.
Re-install the Bargman 7-way distribution box cover.
Step 6
Proceed to warranty reimbursement below.
