Summary
Dennis Eagle Inc. (Dennis Eagle) is recalling one 2017 Diego vehicle. If the changeover switch fails while the vehicle is being driven from the right-hand side (RHS), the instrument cluster and throttle controls may switch to the left-hand side (LHS). In addition, if a passenger presses the brake pedal, the Electronic Braking System (EBS) will be disabled and the brake lights may not illuminate. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 101, “Controls and Displays” and 121, “Air Brake Systems.”
Remedy
Dennis Eagle has notified the owner, and a dealer will update the LHS and RHS instrument cluster, and the brake line pressure switch, free of charge. The recall began August 12, 2019. DearThis notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor
Vehicle Safety Act.
Dennis Eagle Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists if the changeover switch goes faulty whilst driving on the Right-Hand Side (RHS) or pressing the opposite brake pedal to the side you have selected on your Class 8 HHD Vocational Heavy Duty Vehicle: VIN:
!IMPORTANT!
- Your Class 8 Vocational HHD truck is being recalled
- You should contact Dennis Eagle Inc. to schedule an appointment
This recall is being performed in case there is a failure of the changeover switch when driving on the RHS of the truck or if the brake pedal is pressed on the opposite side of the truck to the driver.
- If the changeover switch fails and you are driving on the RHS of the truck you will lose the following functions on the RHS, wipers & washers, lights, indicators, hazard warning switch and all instrument cluster warnings, the throttle pedal will move to the LHS. The brake pedal will work in non EBS mode, however the brake lights will no longer work. To get the brake lights and the EBS back into operation you will need to turn the truck off and on again and drive the truck on the LHS
- If the brake pedal is pressed on the opposite side to the driver the EBS will go off and the brake lights will not work, once again to get out of this mode tum the truck off and back on again.
Dennis Eagle Inc. are implementing a software upgrade to the instrument clusters as well as fitting a pressure switch into the brake service line, these modifications will illuminate fault 1&2 as described above.
