DESCRIPTION
This article will explain how to correct the hood latch fitment on all 8600/TranStar models that have had or need to have a hood latch, and/or the fender extension replaced. These trucks will need to have the hood latch bolt holes repositioned due to a design update related to these components. After replacement of new components, the hood latch may be too loose or too tight depending on the part replaced. This problem depends on the age of the truck and the components being replaced. Replacement latches from service parts are now shorter than the original latch that was supplied with the truck. New fender extensions from service parts will come with the latch holes located for the updated shorter latch design.
SYMPTOMS
Due to a design change between the hood latch and fender extension, the latch may be too loose OR too tight, depending on the age/revision level of the latch and/or fender extension.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Check to see if the hood latch is extremely difficult to latch or if it is extremely loose.
RESOLUTION
New holes to mount the hood latch will need to be drilled:
If there is a mismatch between the age/revision levels of the latch and fender extension and the latch is either too loose or too tight, new latch mounting holes must be drilled in the fender extension to change the position of the latch.
Condition 1: If the latch is too tight, mark & drill new holes up … closer to the hood.
Condition 2: If the latch is too loose, mark & drill new holes down … further away from the hood.
