DESCRIPTION

This document will guide the user through diagnosing refrigerator complaints such as an inoperable
refrigerator, under cooling, and loose

door hinges.

The guidelines listed below are for the refrigerator model CRX50 ONLY

CUSTOMER OBSERVATIONS OR CONCERNS:

Some symptoms the customer may experience are a refrigerator that does not come on at all, the
refrigerator runs but will not cool properly,

or the door hinges may not stay secure.

DIAGNOSTIC STEP(s)

The steps below will focus one at a time on the three driver complaints that may be present.

LOOSE DOOR HINGE OR SEAL:

1 DIAGNOSTIC: Open the refrigerator door and verify the condition. Yes:
Proceed to step 2.

Is the door tight on the hinge?
No: Attempt to tighten the hinge screw

(s). If the screw(s) will not tighten then

replace the refrigerator.

DIAGNOSTIC: Verify the door seal is secure.

Check for a loose or damaged seal around the refrigerator door.

2 Is the seal loose or damaged?

NOTE: A cut or damaged seal is NOT a warrantable condition

Yes: If the seal is loose, cut or damaged,

the refrigerator will need to be replaced.

No: End of door / seal inspection.

REFRIGERATOR OPERATIONAL CHECKS:

Open the refrigerator door and verify operation.

Is the light in the interior of the fridge illuminated? If it is NOT, first make certain the

1 temperature dial is on the ON position.

Does the light come on with the door open, and the temperature dial in the ON

position?

Yes; Proceed to Refrigerator Performance Test.

No: Carefully remove the refrigerator leaving the harness connected and proceed to step 2.

Verify power at the refrigerator supply.

There needs to be a minimum of 12.0 volts to ensure the fridge controller is not in a

low voltage shutoff mode. Check the main 12 ga. red wire for battery power.

Is a minimum of 12.0 volts present at the main 12 ga. supply wire?

Check the 4 terminals on the refrigerator as shown in Figure 1 below.

Yes: Make certain the crimp connectors or spade terminals are not damaged, and that they fit
tightly at the connection points and proceed to step 3.

No: Check the power supply circuit for the cause of the low voltage. Make repairs as needed and
retest for proper operation.

Verify the ground at the refrigerator connection.

Supply a known good battery negative connection to the fridge. Now, with a known good power supply
over 12.0 volts, and good ground connection recheck for proper operation.

Does the light illuminate, and the compressor turn on?

Yes: Check the ground circuit for

the source of the poor ground. Make certain the crimp connectors or spade terminals are not
damaged, and that they fit tightly at the connection points. Make wiring repairs as needed and
retest for proper operation.

No: Replace the refrigerator.
