Inverter May Contact Inverter Fuse/Possible Fire

Summary
Airstream, Inc. (Airstream) is recalling certain 2016-2017 International Serenity, 2016 International Signature, and Flying Cloud trailers that are 19 feet long. The vertically-mounted inverter may contact the floor-mounted inverter fuse.
Remedy
Airstream will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the location of the inverter and inverter fuse. If the inverter and inverter fuse are not mounted on the same surface, the inverter fuse will be relocated, and secured to the same surface as the inverter. In addition, a protective cover will be installed on the inverter fuse bar, free of charge. The recall began November 15, 2019. Airstream 19 Ft. Travel Trailer Inverter Recall

Problem:
Model year 2016 and 2017 19ft. Travel trailers may have the 1000 Watt inverter mounted on the lower bedframe wall with the inverter fuse mounted on the floor below. If the inverter comes away from the wall and makes contact with an uncovered inverter fuse there is a potential of an electrical, or thermal event which could result in property damage, and personal injury.

Note: Because our VINs do not run in a contiguous series, there will be units in the VIN range which will not be affected by this RECALL.
Warranty Reimbursement:
A notice of this recall has been sent to affected retail owners. A copy of the Owner’s letter is included for your review. The customer may request that you complete the repair. If so, please follow the warranty reimbursement procedure. If you are requested to perform the repair for a retail customer, please complete the advised repair and send in a warranty claim referencing this recall number for reimbursement. The time allowed for repair is .50. Use operation code TTSBR8372100.
Service Action:
Inspect inverter fuse holder location and move if it is located on a different surface as the inverter. The Inverter fuse will need to be relocated and secured to the same surface the inverter is located.

Step 1.
The inverter and inverter fuse holder need to be inspected. Remove the mattress and the removable cover of the bed top.
Inspect for the placement of the fuse holder, and verify the plastic cover is present. If the plastic cover is missing it will need to be installed. Please contact Customer Service if a plastic fuse cover is needed. The 100 amp fuse holder and the inverter need to be mounted to the same surface meaning either both mounted to the floor or both mounted to the lower bed frame support.

If both components are mounted on either the floor or the lower bed frame and the plastic protective fuse cover is installed then no other steps are needed. If they are not mounted correctly go to step two.
Step 2.
If the fuse holder needs to be moved the following steps will need to be done.
The batteries will need to be disconnected to prevent arcing while moving the fuse holder.
Step 3
Remove the two screws that hold the fuse holder to the floor. If the cable is in the way of the screws you can loosen the nut with a 1/2″ wrench.
Step 4
Relocate the fuse holder to the panel next to the inverter and attach it with 1/2″ screws or if there is room on the floor area the inverter could be removed from the vertical panel and mounted directly to the floor.
If you loosened the nuts for the wires they will need to be retightened at a torque rating of 12.5 ft. lbs. The cover (part number 511969-100 ) snaps in the holder by squeezing the cover and placing it in the four notches.
Step 5
Finish by hooking the battery back up and replacing the removable cover and mattress.
