Summary

Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain 2020 Cougar fifth wheels and travel trailers, models 22RBS, 23MLS, 25RES, 26RBS, 26RKS, 27RES, 27SAB, 27SGS, 29BHS, 29FKD, 29RLD, 30RKD, 31MBS, 32RDB, 32RLI and 34TSB. The wiring for the solar preparation kit may have been incorrectly wired to the wrong side of the 12V breaker, potentially allowing an electrical short circuit in the event of damage to the wiring.

 

Remedy

Keystone will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and correct the installation of the solar preparation wiring, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on October 25, 2019. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone’s number for this recall is 19-361.

Cougar Solar Prep 40-Amp Mini Breaker Wiring

Keystone is conducting a voluntary RECALL notification campaign in accordance with the National Highway Transportation and Safety Act. It has been decided that the wiring to the 12V breakers located by the battery may not be connected to the protected side of the breaker. If this condition exists it will lead to an increased risk of fire if an electrical short should occur on the unprotected circuit.

Models Included:	2020 Cougar, Models: 22RBS, 23MLS, 25RES, 26RBS, 26RKS, 27RES, 27SAB, 27SGS, 29BHS, 29FKD, 29RLD, 30RKD, 31MBS, 32RDB, 32RLI, 34TSB
Serial Number Ranges:	LV503222 – LV503996
Parts Required:	No parts required
Tools Required:	– 3/8” Wrench

 

Note – Check serial number on Key Express to verify the campaign is open. Some vehicles were repaired before they left Keystone.

When performing warranty or recall service, please make certain that appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used.

The remedy is to inspect the installation of the Solar Prep wiring at the circuit breaker mounted close to the battery and re-mount the wiring if needed.

 

REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1

Locate the trailer on a level, flat, hard surface. Chock the wheels.

 

Step 2

Visually inspect the wiring at the 40-amp breaker. The solar prep wire is a red 8-gauge wire with purple ring terminal. The red 8-gauge wire to the solar prep should be mounted on the line (protected) side of the breaker, this is the opposite terminal of the battery cable. Remount the wiring if needed. See Figures 1 & 2

Keystone RV Company has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model 2020 Keystone Cougar Fifth Wheels and Travel Trailers. As a result, Keystone RV is conducting a safety recall. We apologize for any inconvenience this action may cause you; however your safety and continued satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us.

Reason for this recall	It has been decided that the Solar Prep wiring to the 12V breakers located by the battery may not be connected to the protected side of the breaker. If this condition exists it will lead to an increased risk of fire if an electrical short should occur on the unprotected circuit. If the wire leading to the Solar Prep experiences a short there is an increased risk of fire and/or property damage.
What we will do	Keystone representatives have been in contact with the staff at your selling dealership regarding this situation. The remedy is to inspect the installation of the Solar Prep wiring at the circuit breaker mounted close to the battery and remount the wiring if needed. The service and parts required for this corrective action will be provided at no charge to you.
What we need you to do	As soon as possible, please make an appointment to have your RV serviced by your dealership. The labor time to perform this correction is approximately 1 hour. Please ask your dealer if you wish to know how much additional time will be needed to schedule and process your RV for this repair.
If you have questions	Your dealer is best equipped to obtain parts and provide service to ensure your RV is corrected as promptly as possible. Please contact Keystone Customer service if your dealer is unable to assist or if you take your RV to your dealer on the agreed service date, and the dealer does not remedy the condition within a reasonable amount of time, or without charge to you.
