Cook Top Flame Can Be Inverted Causing Explosion

LP gas flow to an unlit stove burner may result in an explosion, increasing the risk of injury.

Summary

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2018 Eagle travel trailers, model 333BHOK. The flame on the Furrion cook top can become inverted or go out when the furnace is turned on, however, liquid propane (LP) gas will continue to flow to the burners.

 

Remedy

Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will install two wood panels to prevent air from the furnace affecting the stove burners, free of charge. The recall began on February 14, 2018. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco’s number for this recall is 9901366.

NHTSA Recall Campaign # 18V-075

 

Dear Valued Customer:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Jayco has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Model Year 2018 Eagle 333BHOK (EC) travel trailers.  The flame on the cook top could invert and go out when the furnace is running.  LP gas could continue to flow at the burner when the flame is out.  Free flow of LP gas could lead to explosion causing person injury or death and/or property damage.

The Recall Remedy is for a Jayco dealer to remove the stove and add two panels to the stove cabinet to eliminate interference when the furnace is running. The remedy repair is free of charge and will take approximately 1 hour.     If you paid to have this repair performed before you received this letter, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy of the problem associated with this recall.

If your Jayco dealer is unable to perform the recall within a reasonable time frame, please contact Jayco

Customer Service at 800-283-8267 for further instructions. If you choose to take your vehicle to a nonJayco dealer, they must contact Jayco prior to making the recall repairs for proper authorization and instruction.   Federal regulations require that any vehicle lessor receiving this notice must forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten days.

If you take your recreational vehicle to your dealer on the agreed service date and the dealer does not remedy this condition on that date or within three (3) days, please contact our Customer Service Department at 800-283-8267.  If after contacting your dealer and Customer Service you are not able to have the safety defect remedied without charge and/or within a reasonable time, you may wish to submit a written complaint to the Administrator, national Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE., Washington, DC 20590; or call the toll-free Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-3274236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153): or go to https://www.safercar.gov.
