Summary
Blue Bird Body Company (Blue Bird) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Vision and All American school buses equipped with Cummins
PowerDrive 7000 EV electric drivetrain units. Due to a software error, the VCU may activate the anti-roll back feature during slow moving or stop and go conditions, which can cause unexpected vehicle movement.
Remedy
Blue Bird has notified owners, and Cummins
dealers will update the VCU software, free of charge. The recall began October 30, 2019. Owners may contact Cummins
customer service at 1-800-286-6467 or Blue Bird customer service at 1-478-822-2242. Blue Bird’s number for this recall is R19AJ-SB.

PowerDrive EV Vehicle Control Units (VCU) Anti-roll Back Feature Program Error
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
This important safety recall notice applies to your bus(es) identified by both Blue Bird Body Number and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the enclosed yellow cover sheet. If you no longer own the subject bus(es), please complete the appropriate section of the yellow cover sheet and return to Blue Bird in the enclosed pink postage prepaid envelope.
Blue Bird Body Company is recalling certain model year 2018-2019 Vision School Buses manufactured from January 19, 2019 through September 9, 2019, and certain model year 2018-2019 All American School Buses manufactured from August 1, 2018 through September 23, 2019. On the subject buses, Blue Bird and Cummins
have determined that certain PowerDrive EV Vehicle Control Units (VCU) may activate the anti-roll back feature during slow moving, stop-and-go conditions. If this occurs, the vehicle may experience a brief unexpected motion, possibly increasing the risk of a vehicle crash and/or injury to passengers or pedestrians.
To correct this condition, Cummins
will work with vehicle owners to schedule a VCU software update for their affected vehicle(s). Cummins
expects to have the software remedy no later than December 18, 2019.
Federal law requires that any vehicle lessor receiving this recall notice must forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten days.
Reimbursements will be made in accordance with the requirements of the National Highway Transportation Safety Act, Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations, Parts 573 and 577.

If Blue Bird’s records indicate bus(es) subject to this recall were delivered in your service area, a list of affected bus(es) will be enclosed. The bus(es) will be identified by Blue Bird Body Number and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the enclosed yellow cover sheet. Dealers should verify correct owners and assure that complete mailing and shipping addresses are provided for each listed owner.
It is the dealer’s responsibility to verify that the correct owner name, address, and telephone number is provided for each listed vehicle. Any corrections or updates should be made in Claims Center. Addresses that cannot be updated should be forwarded to the Recall Administrator.

Federal law requires that any vehicle lessor receiving this recall notice must forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten days.
