Correction of Slideout Wiring and Plumbing

KEYWORDS:

Plumbing,Slide, Slideout, Wiring

ISSUE DATE:

January 2020

The purpose of this Recall Service Bulletin is to inform all REV Recreation Group dealers about the need to inspect, and if necessary, correct the routing of the slideout wiring and plumbing on certain model year 2020 Fleetwood and Holiday RamblereBay logo brand Class A diesel motorhomes, equipped with a moveable under-fl oor slideout raceway. A list of the affected, model-specifi c vehicles appears at the end of this Bulletin.

CONDITION:

On motorhomes affected by this recall, the wire harness and/or plumbing bundle running from the main basement of the coach into the slideout box(es) via a moveable under-fl oor raceway may be routed or secured in such a manner that allows them to be kinked and damaged by the metal raceway pan. This kinking or damage could lead to failures in the electrical, plumbing, or propane systems.

If the wire harness and/or plumbing bundle becomes damaged, it may cause a fi re leading to property damage, personal injury or death.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Dealers are required to call REV Technical Support before beginning any work and after the unit is in their bay. Prior authorization is required to be submitted. Failure to follow these instructions could result in a denied claim.

  • READ THIS ENTIRE BULLETIN CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING AND FOLLOW ALL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS.
  • Review the list of affected units at the end of this bulletin to ensure the motorhome you are inspecting is part of this campaign.
  • Take a copy of this bulletin with you when servicing the unit.
  • PHOTOS WILL BE REQUIRED FOR THE FOLLOWING

PROCEDURES. READ PHOTO REQUIREMENTS

CAREFULLY. INSUFFICIENT PHOTO DOCUMENTATION MAY RESULT IN CLAIM DENIAL

If there are any questions after reviewing the entire procedure, contact REV Dealer Technical Support.

INSPECTION:

1. Park the motor home on a paved, level surface with adequate space to extend the slideout room(s). Place the transmission into NEUTRAL and engage the parking brake.

2. With the engine running, deploy the leveling jacks, and then fully extend the living area slideout box(es).

NOTE: Discovery LXE model 40G has one living room slideout with a moveable under-floor raceway (roadside). All other affected products/models have 2 living room slideouts with a moveable under-floor raceway (1 roadside and 1 doorside).

3. Turn off the ignition and remove the ignition key. Maintain control of the ignition key until all repairs are completed. Attach a notice, “Do Not Use”, to the ignition switch in order to avoid activation of the systems.

4. Block wheels to prevent movement.

5. Locate the doorside metal wire/plumbing raceway that runs from the main body of the coach to the slideout box and open the compartment door located directly below it. See Figure 1.

Note: This is typically the compartment door located directly behind the front axle.

6. With the luggage door open, locate and remove the (5) harness access panel screws in the void along the leading edge, directly behind the luggage door seal frame. See Figures 2 and 3. Depending on the location of the screws, it may be necessary to remove the luggage door bulb seal in order to access the screw heads.

Note: Do not removed the loop clamp bolts attached to this panel.

7. With the access panel mounting screws removed, swing the access panel downward in order to locate the slideout wire harness/plumbing loop. If the panel does not pull down easily, check for any binding or obstruction along the edges (e.g., basement wall panels, harness routing, etc.).

Note: On Discovery, Discovery LXE and Endeavor, the Aqua Hot water heater is located in the roadside compartment. Although this will limit the amount of working space, do not remove any Aqua Hot components. Simply swing the forward edge of the access panel down as far as possible and use a small object to wedge the panel open while performing the procedures.

8. With the panel pivoted down, inspect the wire harness/plumbing bundle to determine whether it was correctly tape-wrapped and secured. See Figures 4 and 5 for examples of correct securement; see Figures 6 and 7 for examples of incorrect securement.

Note: The correct tape wrapping should consist of a spiral wrap of electrical tape every 2” from the rear loop clamp up to the location where the wire harness/plumbing bundle is secured to the moving raceway mounted to the slideout box.

9. While performing the inspection on the wire harness/plumbing bundle, also check to see if there are any screws protruding through the access panel in areas where the wire harness/plumbing bundle would move when the slideout is retracted. See Figure 8 for an example. If this is the case, either relocate the mounted items to another location or cut the screws off flush and cover with sealant so that the wire harness/plumbing bundle does not snag while in motion. Use flat rate code 6092-12 if no other repairs are required involving this slideout.

10. If the wire harness/plumbing bundle was determined to be “not defective” and any screws were addressed as needed in the previous step, raise and reinstall the wire harness/plumbing access cover in its original location. If the luggage door bulb seal was removed earlier, reinstall it to complete the inspection. If the wire harness/plumbing bundle was inspected and found to be improperly routed, wrapped and/or secured (i.e., “defective”), follow the remaining steps in order to perform repairs.

11. For all models except Discovery LXE 40G:
Locate the roadside metal wire/plumbing raceway that runs from the main body of the coach to the slideout box and open the compartment door located directly below it. See Figure 1.

Note: This is typically the compartment door located directly behind the front axle. Perform Steps 6-10 for the roadside raceway.

PHOTO REQUIREMENTS

  • Non-Defective units: Take several photos that clearly show the presence of electrical tape wrap with the correct spacing and securement; submit the photos with a claim using fl at rate code 6091-11. Indicate which photos are for the roadside raceway and which (except for Discovery LXE model 40G) are for the doorside raceway.
  • Defective units: “Before” and “After” photos will be required. Take several photos clearly showing missing or inadequate electrical tape wrap and attach them to a draft claim. Indicate which photos are for the doorside raceway and which (except for Discovery LXE model 40G) are for the roadside raceway.

Contact REV Dealer Technical Support for repair approval and instructions on how to proceed. Photos must also be taken “After” repair that clearly show the correct electrical tape wrapping and securement. Submit the photos with a claim using fl at rate code 6091-12.

Continue to the “REPAIR PROCEDURE”, step 12 on Page 5.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

12. With the access panel in its lowered position, arrange the wire harnesses and plumbing as needed so that it lays in an organized fashion and is free of any kinks or sharp bends.

13. Beginning at the point where the wire harness/plumbing bundle exits the raceway coming in from the slideout, tightly spiral wrap the bundle together using electrical tape. See Figure 9.

IMPORTANT: The spiral wrap must have no more than 2” spacing. See Figure 10.

14. Continue running the spiral wrap along the entire length of harness from the raceway to, at minimum, the rear-most loop clamp mounted to the access panel. If possible, continue the wrap to the location where the wire harness/plumbing bundle exits the chassis frame rail. See Figure 11.

15. Once the wire harness/plumbing bundle has been properly spiral wrapped and any screws were addressed as needed in Step 9, raise and reinstall the wire harness/plumbing access cover in its original location. If the luggage door seal was removed during the inspection procedures, reinstall it to complete the repair.

PHOTO REQUIREMENT Ensure “Before” and “After” photos have been taken.

“After” repair photos must clearly show the correct electrical tape wrapping and securement. Submit the photos with a claim using fl at rate code 6091-12, “Inspected/Defective/Repaired”. Indicate which photos are for the doorside raceway and which (except for Discovery LXE model 40G) are for the roadside raceway.

Dear Valued Fleetwood Customer:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

REV Recreation Group, Inc. has decided that a safety defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model year 2020 Fleetwood brand Class A diesel motorhomes:

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

On motorhomes affected by this recall, a wire harness/plumbing bundle installed in an articulating (moveable) slideout raceway, may have been improperly wrapped and secured within the slideout raceway. Without the proper securement method, the wire harness/plumbing bundle may become tangled and/or damaged by the metal slideout raceway that extends and retracts with the slideout room.

If the wire harness/plumbing bundle becomes damaged, a fire may result, posing the risk of personal injury or death.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

Please make certain your motorhome is immediately inspected and repaired by contacting an authorized REV Recreation Group servicing dealer.

For assistance locating an authorized REV Recreation Group servicing dealer, please call REV Recreation Group Owner Relations toll-free at: (800) 322-8216

To minimize the safety risk until the corrective measures are implemented, please avoid operating the slideout room switch.

Effective immediately, REV RV dealers have been supplied with all of the information needed to enable them to inspect, and if necessary, reroute and resecure the wire harness/plumbing bundle. This service will be performed for you free of charge.

The repair should take approximately one hour to complete; however, because of service scheduling times, your dealer may need the vehicle for a longer period of time.

When you deliver your motorhome for repairs, your dealer will complete a Repair Order. Upon completion of the repair, please sign the Repair Order and fill out the enclosed selfaddressed Vehicle/Owner Information Update Card and return it to REV Recreation Group.
