Summary
PACCAR
Incorporated (PACCAR
) is recalling certain 2020 Kenworth
T370 long wheelbase vehicles with larger rear axle spacing. The vehicles may be missing a second R12 relay valve, causing increased brake activation timing. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 121, “Air Brake Systems.”
Remedy
PACCAR
will notify owners, and Kenworth
dealers will install a second R12 relay valve, free of charge. PACCAR
issued owners an interim notification on April 14, 2020. The recall began May 6, 2020. Owners may contact Kenworth
customer service at 1-425-828-5888. PACCAR
’s number for this recall is 20KWA.

Kenworth
Truck Company has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain model year 2018-2020T370 vehicles manufactured from 09/17/2017 through 10/08/2019. Vehicles with a Primaax rear suspension and may have been manufactured without a second R12 relay valve. This may cause the vehicle to exceed brake timing performance requirements. This results in the vehicle exceeding the allowable actuation time defined in FMVSS 121 S5.3.3.Increased brake activation timing may lengthen vehicle stopping distance, increasing the risk of a crash.

has initiated a recall to address the defect. At this time, replacement parts are not yet available from the component supplier. You will be notified when the repair parts/software update become(s) available and you may schedule an appointment with a dealer to obtain the repair.

Truck Company has determined that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain T370 model chassis manufactured between September 27, 2017 and October 08, 2019. Revision Notes
05/04/2020: Updated parts list to clearly indicate which parts must be ordered through DSP and PPD.
04/28/2020: Bulletin updated with parts, repair instruction, and warranty claim information.
Situation
24 T370 chassis (4 U.S. and 20 Canada) model year 2018-2020, built from 09/27/2017 through 10/08/2019 equipped with Primaax rear suspension.
Resolution
Service all chassis affected that enter your dealership, even if the customer has no issue with the chassis.
- Review the attached chassis list for your dealer code and schedule your customer(s) for service if their chassis is on the list.
- If you are not using Service Management to start repair orders, review DWWC or SIR for “Complete” next to the “20KWA” campaign code prior to performing this repair.
- Follow the procedures below to install an additional relay valve.
It is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to sell or lease new vehicles covered by this recall until the defect or noncompliance has been corrected.
Warranty
There is no time or mileage limit for this recall. Kenworth
will pay for parts at dealer net plus applicable mark-up and labor:
0.3 hours labor to inspect and confirm the second R12 relay valve is correctly installed, no repair is necessary. Use Quick Claim Code 20KWAA.
3.0 hours labor to install missing second R12 relay valve. Use Quick Claim Code 20KWAB. File a long claim for extraordinary circumstances, which must be explained. A quick claim for standard labor must be filed first.
