Summary
Tropos Technologies, Inc. (Tropos) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Able low-speed vehicles. The back-up camera may not provide a sufficient view angle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, “Rear Visibility.”
Remedy
Tropos will notify owners, and dealers will replace the camera, free of any charge. The recall began July 24, 2020. Owners may contact Tropos customer service at 1-408-571-6104. Tropos’ number for this recall is TRO-20-01.

Why is a recall being conducted?
Your 2019 or 2020 TROPOS Able LSV may have noncompliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111 and No. 500.
The noncompliance involves Rear-view Camera.
2019 or 2020 TROPOS Able LSV may have noncompliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 500 and No. 111, because a rearview camera with inadequate “view angle” has been installed.
The lack of proper image on the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash or back-over incident.
What are we doing about the problem?
Your TROPOS vehicle dealer will inspect the vehicle free of charge. If rearview camera replacement is determined to be required, it will be replaced free of charge in about one hour, and your vehicle can be driven immediately after the replacement is completed.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
TROPOS TECHNOLOGIES, Inc. has decided that certain 2019 – 2020 Model Year TROPOS Able LSVs, fail to comply to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) No. 111 “Rear Visibility” and also FMVSS No. 500 “Low Speed Vehicles”.
Accordingly, a recall to address this issue is being initiated effective August 7, 2020.
The noncompliance involves Rear-view Camera.
2019 or 2020 TROPOS Able LSV may have noncompliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 500 and No. 111, because a rearview camera with inadequate “view angle” has been installed.
The back-up camera does not have adequate “view angle” and therefore display on the monitor is such that the “test objects” F and G as per rear view image Test Procedure (TP-111-V-01) are not visible. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, “Rear Visibility”
Owners will be notified by mail about the recall and will be instructed to bring their TROPOS Able LSV for inspection to their local TROPOS dealer.
There is no cost to owners for this recall.
You as TROPOS vehicle dealer will inspect the vehicle free of charge. If rearview camera replacement is determined to be required, it will be replaced free of charge in about one hour, and the vehicle can be driven immediately after the replacement is completed.
Replacement rearview cameras will be provided to your dealership free of charge, and you will be reimbursed for the inspection and/or camera replacement at standard Warranty Labor Rates. (6/10 hours for replacement and inspection, or 2/10 hours for inspection only, if it is determined that correct camera has been installed and therefore replacement is not required). The replacement Kit will be Tropos PN 408-00-19A6.
Please be reminded that it is a violation of Federal law for you to sell or lease the 2019 or 2020 TROPOS Able LSVs covered by this notification, until this recall has been performed on these vehicles.
Substantial civil penalties apply to violations of this law.
