Sub-Frame Cracking Around Rear Suspension
The rear suspension hangers can break away from the sub-frame and become detached from the trailer, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary
Stoughton Trailers, LLC (Stoughton) is recalling certain 2016-2019 DVW trailers with a specific rear pintle hook mounting assembly and rear suspension hangers welded to a channel suspension sub-frame. The sub-frame may crack around the area where the hangers are welded.
Remedy
Stoughton will notify owners and will repair the existing fatigue cracks and add reinforcements in the area of the rear hanger, free of charge. Owners may contact Stoughton customer service at 1-352-593-5900.

Dear Owner of STOUGHTON Brand Trailers,
In April of 2020 we sent you a notification regarding certain 28 ft Stoughton trailers that may develop cracks in the suspension rear hanger attachment to the subframe. In that letter we informed you we would be filing a recall notification with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regarding this issue, after which an official owner’s notification letter, as required by NHTSA, would be sent to you. This is the official notification letter. This will not change the on going repairs that you have been conducting per the repair instructions we have provided.
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Highway Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Stoughton Trailers, LLC (Stoughton) has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model years 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020 model DVW STOUGHTON brand trailers. This recall will affect certain trailers built in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019 that are 28 ft long with certain Cchannel sub-frame fixed suspensions.
The Stoughton Trailer recall has been assigned the NHTSA recall number 20V596.
Description of Defect:
The suspension rear hangers are attached to the bottom of a C-channel subframe. Fatigue cracks have been found in the hanger attachment welds and bottom leg of the C-channels. If not corrected this could lead to the detachment of the rear hangers from the trailer which may cause personal injury or death.
Remedy:
The remedy consists of repairing any existing fatigue cracks and adding reinforcements to the rear suspension hanger and C-channel subframe. Specific instructions for your fleet repair will be provided (RD-00089). We will provide repair kits and send out representatives to instruct maintenance shops of your choice on how to install.
The cost of the repair will be covered by Stoughton Trailers. If you no longer own this trailer, please contact Stoughton to provide the new owner information. Stoughton will then contact the new owner. If you are the lessor of this vehicle, please forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within 10 days to comply with federal regulations.
If you have already paid to have your trailer repaired to correct the aforementioned conditions, you may be eligible for reimbursement of the charges you paid for that repair.
