Wire Harness may Chafe, Causing Tail Light Failure

Summary
Triple E Recreational Vehicles (Triple E) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Serenity S24CB, 2018-2021 Unity U24MB, U24FX, and 2020-2021 Unity U24RL motorhomes. When the vehicle is driven with the fresh water tank partially filled, the fresh water tank bracket can shift side to side, resulting in the chassis wire harness getting chafed, resulting in a loss of tail lights.
Remedy
Triple E will notify owners, and dealers will install an additional bracket to resolve the issue, free of charge. The recall began December 7, 2020. Owners may contact Triple E customer service at 1-877-992-9906. Triple E’s number for this recall is CA#9835-1.

The following are instructions for trained technicians for the installation of wire harness protection to comply with Transport Canada recall number 2020-557 and the US National Highway Transportation Safety Association (NHTSA) product safety recall, Campaign Number 20V722. The new additional protection will prevent potential damage from taking place of the wire harness.

Locate the fresh water tank.
In all cases it is mounted on the driver side just in front of the rear wheel.
In coaches with a slide-out (U24MB/FX), open the slide for easier access.

Between the rear DS side tank bracket and the Sprinter
chassis there is a wire harness routed along the frame (yellow line).
At the potential contact point for the tank bracket, inspect for chaffing/damage of the Sprinter harness.

If wear is found on the Sprinter harness take a picture and contact Leisure Travel Vans at 1-877-992-9906-ext for further instructions.
Note: Some 2019-2020MY motorhomes have a Leisure Vans harness covered in split tubing. This is not a part of this action.

If no damage is found, install the 200mm piece of split tubing (126-6603) over top of the Sprinter harness at the potential contact point with the tank bracket.

Install a 200mm (8 inches) piece of Wind lace (140-3021) on the side of the angled hanger bracket at the potential contact point to protect the wiring harnesses.

Locate the bracket on the front passenger side of the fresh water tank.

Push tank toward driver side until solid.
Install angled bracket (B073545) on driver side of tank, to the top hanger with two Tek screws (141-0083).

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National
Traffic & Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Triple E Recreational Vehicles has
decided that certain 2018, 2019, 2020 & 2021 Serenity & Unity (U24MB,
U24FX & U24RL) motorhomes manufactured between June 2, 2017 & October
23, 2020 fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard
Description of Safety Defect:
The fresh water tank bracket on units manufactured with the water tank located
below the floor, can shift side to side causing the chassis wire harness to
become chaffed through. When the fresh water tank is pmiially filled, the
movement of the vehicle causes the water tank to move resulting in the bracket
moving and chaffing the wire harness. The chaffing of the chassis wiring
harness when in motion, vehicles following may not see the loss of tail light
illumination, this could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and /or
damage to prope1iy
To Have This Modification Performed:
We request your assistance to have this Safety issue conected. Please follow
the enclosed SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) to perform the Recall. If
you choose to have your selling dealer or a RV service center perfo1m the recall
it will be performed at no charge to you. The time needed to perform the recall
is approximately 30 minutes. If you choose to have this Recall performed by a
service center other than your dealer, prior authorization is required.
If you had this repair performed before you received this letter, you may
be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a prenotification
remedy of the problem associated with this recall.
