Summary
Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Freightliner Sprinter vehicles equipped with electric parking brakes. The rear brake calipers may leak brake fluid into the housing of the electric parking brake connected to the rear axle service brake system, allowing air to enter the hydraulic brake system.
Remedy
DVUSA has not yet established a remedy. DVUSA issued owners an interim notification on January 21, 2021. The remedy is expected to be available in December 2021. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. DVUSA’s number for this recall is VS3BREPB.

Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Freightliner vans, has determined that on certain Sprinter vehicles from platform 907 (VS30) equipped with an electrical parking brake(EPB), if the EPB is used frequently, then over time, the brake caliper of the rear axle may leak brake fluid into the housing of the electric parking brake that is connected to the rear axle service brake system. This could allow air to enter the hydraulic brake system which could lead to extended brake pedal travel and a changed brake pedal feel. Dear Valued Freightliner Sprinter Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Sprinter vans, has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety
exists in certain Model Year 2019 – 2020 Freightliner Sprinter vehicles. Our records indicate that your vehicle is included in the
affected population of vehicles.
MBAG has determined that the brake caliper of the rear axle may leak brake fluid into the housing of the electric parking brake
connected to the rear axle service brake system, which could lead to extended brake pedal travel and a changed brake pedal
feel. If the condition is not addressed, there might be an increased risk of a crash.
MBAG is currently working on developing a final technical remedy and therefore, the parts to remedy this issue are
currently not yet available.
We are working to obtain the necessary parts to correct this condition as quickly as possible. As the parts become available, we will
send you another letter asking you to take your vehicle to an authorized Freightliner dealer to have the recall completed free of
charge.
Should you have any concerns or questions regarding your vehicle before you receive the next recall letter when parts are
available, please contact an authorized Freightliner dealer. If for any reason a dealer is unable to remedy your situation, we
