Incorrect Spring Hanger Installed

Summary
Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2021 Jayco Eagle fifth wheel vehicles. Certain vehicles were equipped with a 4 1/4 inch spring hanger instead of the proper 5 1/4 inch spring hanger, reducing the tire clearance.
Remedy
Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will install the correct 5 1/4 spring hangers, free of charge. The recall began March 29, 2021. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-617-776-0344. Jayco’s number for this recall is 9901563.

INSTRUCTIONS
- Position the unit on level ground. The unit must be in a level condition. NOTE: The unit can be in an “as loaded” state, however not to exceed 3500 pounds for any one tire.
- Retract ALL stabilizer jacks.
- Support the frame on jack stands as close to the rear wheel as possible providing a safe and supported platform for the unit to work on. Support the unit on the pin box using a suitable stand or a forklift (Fig.1).
- Remove the tires and stow for later installation.
- Using floor jacks lift the frame slightly and then place properly rated jack stands under the axles (Fig. 2). Position jacks so there is access to drive the shackle bolts out with a hammer.
- Place suitable blocks under the axle tube near the repair area.
NOTE: The block acts as a support for the weight of the axle only, allowing service of the suspension system components. Multiple axle trailers MUST have the weight of each axle properly supported before disassembly of any suspension system components.
- Remove the nut and bolt assembly from the center spring hanger. This will allow the CRE equalizer to drop from the spring hanger. Perform this step on both side of the unit.
- Cut the welds securing the center spring hanger to allow removal. Use care to avoid damage to the surface areas. Once the hanger is out of the way, grind the area smooth in preparation for re-welding the new spring hanger to the frame.
- Select the correct replacement spring hanger from the following parts list.
Remove the 3 ¼” center hanger and hanger support and install a 4 ¼” center hanger and hanger support as noted above on the door side and off door side of the unit.
Remove the 4 ¼” center hanger and hanger support and install a 5” center hanger and hanger support as noted above on the door side and off door side of the unit.
- Center the new spring hanger between the front spring hanger and the rear spring hangers. Clamp into place. The spring hanger requires a full weld to the frame by a qualified welder as shown below.
- Clean the weld area and paint black to avoid corrosion.
- Reinstall the CRE equalizer using new bolts and lock nuts provided.
Torque the nut to 35 to 45 ft.-lbs.
- Install tires and wheel previously removed, and torque to 120 ft.-lbs. in a proper star pattern shown in Figure 9, on the next page.
- Remove jack stands.
- Drive the unit through the lot doing s-turns and re-torque the wheel nuts to 120 ft.-lbs., following the same star pattern shown in figure 9.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Jayco has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exits in certain 2021, 355MBQS (WA) and 321RSTS (WD) Eagle Fifth Wheels.
Reason for this recall
An incorrect leaf spring hanger bracket was installed on your fifth wheel, resulting in reduced tire clearance. Reduction in tire clearance could result in the tire making contact to the wheel well, increasing the risk of a tire damage and/or blow out, affecting handling and increasing the risk of a crash.
Recall Remedy
Remedy consist of removing and replacing the spring hanger bracket with the correct size (5 ¼”) onto the frame. The remedy will be performed free of charge to you and will take approximately four hours to complete.

Please contact a Jayco Dealer and set an appointment for this remedy.
Federal regulations require that any vehicle lessor receiving this recall notice must forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten days.
If you had this repair completed prior to receipt of this recall notice, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy of the problem associated with this recall.
