Water Heater May Leak Gas Into Coach
Gas inside the coach increases the risk of a fire.

Summary
VanLeigh RV (VanLeigh) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Beacon and 2019-2022 Vilano coaches. The water heater housing may not have been properly sealed, allowing gas to enter the coach.
Remedy
Dealers will install a grommet ensuring the sleeve is facing out and use zip-ties to secure the sleeves to the gas line, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed July 9, 2021. Owners may contact VanLeigh customer service at 1-662-612-4040.

RECALL INSPECTION AND REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS
NHTSA Recall #: 21V-355
Vanleigh Recall #: VL-103
Models Involved: 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 Vilano Fifth Wheels and 2019, 2020 and 2021 Beacon Fifth Wheels built between May 4, 2018 and April 27, 2021.
Purpose: To provide instructions on how to check that the on-demand water heater is properly installed, and if not, how to correct the installation
Tools Needed:
2 Adjustable Wrenches
Parts Needed:
Seal Kit – if repair is needed
When filing the warranty claim for payment please use the following flat rate codes and times and attach a photo of the repair or inspection to the claim.
RC10098L, 21V-355, Recall inspection only. Time allowed 0.20 hours
RC10098A, 21V-355, Recall repair. Total time allowed 1.00 hour
Inspection Procedure:
1) If the gas line enters through the side of the water heater housing, ensure that the gas line and the data cable enter through a rubber grommet with a sleeve. The sleeve should be zip-tied tight to the gas line and data cable to ensure the compartment is sealed at this entry.

Note: Data wire entry- the gas line may enter through this port as well on some coaches
2) If the gas line enters through the rear, ensure that it enters the housing through a rubber grommet with a sleeve. The sleeve should be zip-tied tight to the gas line to properly seal this entry. The data cable should enter the side port through a rubber grommet with a sleeve. The sleeve should be zip-tied tight against the data cable to seal the compartment.

3) If the unit is inspected and found to comply with either step 1 or 2 above, submit a warranty claim using the flat rate code for the inspection only along with a photo confirming that the grommet is in place. There is no repair required.
Repair Procedure:
If the unit is inspected and does not conform to the installation practice noted in either step 1 or 2, contact Vanleigh RV customer service and request a Seal Kit for Recall 21V-355. This kit contains (2) grommets designed specifically for the water heater and (2) zip-ties to secure the grommets to the gas line and data cable.
NOTE: only (1) grommet and zip-tie will be required if the unit was installed with a side-entry gas line.
Repair Instructions for units with Side-Entry Gas Installation
1. Shut off propane supply to the coach.
2. Shut off 12V disconnect switch located in the passthrough storage compartment.
3. Open the water heater door and locate the final gas connection and the data cable connection. See Figure 1.
4. Depress the clip on the data cable and remove it from the control board.
5. Use an adjustable wrench to counter hold the square end of the gas valve connection while using another wrench to disconnect the gas line from the water heater.
6. Feed the gas line and the data cable through a provided grommet with the sleeve facing into the water heater housing.
7. Secure the grommet into the hole on the water heater housing. NOTE: Do not zip-tie yet.
8. Reconnect the data cable by pushing it into the data cable receiver on the control board. Make sure it clicks into place.
9. Reconnect the gas line using an adjustable wrench while using a second wrench to counter hold the square end of the gas valve connection.
10. Check the water heater for gas leaks in accordance with RVIA standards and as detailed in the Truma AquaGo owners’ manual.
i. Turn OFF the electrical power supply.
ii. NOTICE-Damage to the appliance from test pressure higher than 60 in. wc. (150mbar). Ensure that the test pressure is lower than 60 in. wc. (150 mbar).
iii. Turn on the gas.
iv. Check the appliance and all gas connections for gas leaks with leak detection liquid-Bubbles indicate a gas leak that must be repaired.
v. Repair gas leaks as needed.
vi. Repeat check for gas leaks at all connections.
11. Zip-tie the sleeve of the grommet to the gas line and data cable to properly seal the unit.
Repair Instructions for units with Rear-Entry Gas Installation
1. Shut off propane supply to the coach.
2. Shut off 12V disconnect switch located in the passthrough storage compartment.
3. Open the water heater door and locate the data cable connection.
4. Depress the clip on the data cable and remove it from the control board.
5. If the data cable entered through the rear, re-route it so that it enters the housing through the side.
6. Feed the data cable through a provided grommet with the sleeve facing out of the water heater housing and secure the grommet to the housing.
7. Reconnect the data cable by pushing it into the data cable receiver on the control board. Make sure it clicks into place.
8. NOTE: Access to the coach side of the water heater housing is required for the following steps.
9. Zip-tie the grommet sleeve to the data cable to properly seal the housing.
10. Use an adjustable wrench to counter hold the square end of the gas valve connection while using another wrench to disconnect the gas line from the water heater.
11. Feed a provided grommet over the gas line with the sleeve facing out and secure it into the water heater housing. See Figure 2.
12. Reconnect the gas line using an adjustable wrench while using a second wrench to counter hold the square end of the gas valve connection.
13. Check the water heater for gas leaks in accordance with RVIA standards and as detailed in the Truma AquaGo owner’s manual
i. Turn OFF the electrical power supply.
