Summary
Thule, Inc. (Thule) is recalling certain Thule Tepui Hybox Tepui Wedge part number 901110, Thule Tepui Hybox part number 901100, Tepui Hybox wedge part number 8001HB203, and Tepui Hybox part number 8001HB103 and 8001HB112 rooftop tents.
The rooftop tent shell may crack at the point where the mounting rails attach and detach from the vehicle.
Remedy
Thule will provide a refund or replacement rooftop tent, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 13, 2021. Owners may contact Thule customer service at 1-855-216-7375.

At the Thule Group we take quality very seriously and product safety is our top priority. Unfortunately, we have identified a defect of the identified rooftop tents where, when exposed to certain environmental and driving conditions, there is a risk of the tent becoming partly or fully detached from the vehicle’s roof while driving, which could cause a vehicle crash or injure nearby pedestrians.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Thule Group to arrange for the return of the rooftop tent and register for a refund or a replacement rooftop tent, free of charge.
Affected Tepui Hybox, Tepui Hybox Wedge,Thule Tepui HyBox and Thule Tepui HyBox Wedge rooftop tents are only models that have been manufactured between January 1, 2018 and April 28, 2021.

What should you do with your recalled rooftop tent?
You should stop using the product immediately. Confirm that your rooftop tent falls within the recall population. Once confirmed, please visit the Thule brand website (www.thule.com/hyboxrecall) to arrange for a return of your existing rooftop tent and to register for a replacement product, or alternative options consistent with the recall campaign. Thule is issuing a voluntary recall of Thule Tepui Hybox, Thule Tepui Hybox Wedge, Tepui Hybox Black, Tepui Hybox White, and Tepui Hybox Wedge rooftop tents with a manufactured date between January 2018 through April 2021, as a precautionary action. Unfortunately, we have identified a defect with the identified rooftop tents where, when exposed to certain environmental and driving conditions, there is a risk of the tent becoming partly or fully detached from the vehicle’s roof, which could cause a vehicle crash or injure nearby pedestrians.
Please note that no other Thule products are affected by the recall.

Thule Group Announces Recall of the following rooftop tents:
Thule Tepui Hybox (#901100), Thule Tepui Hybox Wedge (#901110), Tepui Hybox (#8001HB103 and #8001HB112), and Tepui Hybox Wedge (#8001HB203)
Hazard: Due to a design defect, when the rooftop tents are exposed to certain environmental and driving conditions, they can become partly or fully detached from the vehicle’s roof while driving, which could cause a vehicle crash or injure nearby pedestrians.
Recalled Product: Thule Tepui Hybox (#901100), Thule Tepui Hybox Wedge (#901110), Tepui Hybox (#8001HB103 and #8001HB112) and Tepui Hybox Wedge (#8001HB203) rooftop tents manufactured between January, 2018 – April 28, 2021.
Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the rooftop tent and determine if your product falls within the recall population. If so, contact Thule Group for a refund or a replacement tent.

Dear Thule Partner,
The Thule Group has determined that a safety defect exists in the Tepui Hybox, Tepui Hybox Wedge, Thule Tepui HyBox and Thule Tepui HyBox Wedge rooftop tents manufactured between January 1, 2018 through April 28, 2021. Accordingly, we are initiating a recall in conjunction with NHTSA to address this issue.
At the Thule Group we take quality very seriously and product safety is our top priority. Unfortunately, we have identified an issue with the identified rooftop tents where, when exposed to certain environmental and driving conditions, there is a risk of the tent becoming partly or fully detached from the vehicle’s roof, which could cause a vehicle crash or injure nearby pedestrians.
Above is a representative photo of the Tepui Hybox, Tepui Hybox Wedge, Thule Tepui HyBox, and Thule Tepui HyBox Wedge.
Owners will be notified by mail about the recall and will be instructed to contact Thule directly to:
- return the recalled rooftop tents; and
- receive a full refund or replacement rooftop tent. There are no costs to owners for this recall.
Below is a picture of the rooftop tent´s product number and date code, which is located on the driver´s side rear hinge for all Thule Tepui branded rooftop tents. For all Tepui branded rooftop tents, there is no date code sticker to reference.
The recalled products were manufactured between January 1, 2018 and April 28, 2021 and contain the following product numbers: 8001HB103, 8001HB112, 8001HB203, 901100 and 901110
This recall is limited to the units with a manufactured date between January 1, 2018 through April 28, 2021. The recall does not affect any units produced on or after May 1, 2021.
What do we want you to do?
We kindly ask you to take the following immediate actions:
- As we advised on April 23, 2021, immediately stop your distribution and sale of the Thule Tepui HyBox and Thule Tepui HyBox Wedge, if you have not already done so.
- As we advised on Monday, May 10, 2021 immediately stop your distribution and sale of Tepui Hybox and Tepui Hybox Wedge, if you have not already done so.
- Compile a list of your customers’ contact information (name and address or email) for individuals that have purchased a Thule Tepui HyBox, Thule Tepui HyBox Wedge, Tepui HyBox or Tepui HyBox Wedge so that Thule can instruct them on the recall. Please Email the customer information to [email protected].
- If you are not willing or cannot share the consumer information, we ask that you provide us with the contact information for a point person at your store who will be responsible to assist us with this process. We will send pre-paid postage envelopes / consumer letters for you to address and mail to your customer free of charge.
- Contact customer service to have any in store or warehouse recalled units sent back to Thule free of charge.
- Consumers should be directed to:

- given our dedicated (toll free) telephone number: 1-855-216-7375, 8am to 5pm EST.
- NHTSA requires us to display the enclosed poster in a conspicuous location within each retailer location for 120 days.
- We note that it is a violation of Federal Law for any retailer to sell, offer for sale, or distribute any product covered by this recall. Substantial civil penalties apply to violations of this law.
The public announcement of this recall will be scheduled to go on our website on May 13, 2021
