Your VIN(s) can be found on the bottom or back of this page. Dear Peterbilt Customer, You are receiving this notice in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Peterbilt has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model 367, 389, 567, and 579 vehicles manufactured from 12/01/2020 through 06/29/2021 and equipped with Hill Start Assist. The crossmember mounted Hill Start Assist valve may not have sufficient clearance to the rear axle, resulting in hose or fitting damage which could cause loss of rear brake signal. If loss of the rear brake signal occurs, the vehicle could experience reduced rear braking capability or loss of brakes to the rear axle(s), increasing the risk of a crash. What is the problem? Hill Start Assist valve may not have sufficient clearance to the rear axle. What will your dealer do? When parts become available for this repair, the dealer will replace the Hill Start Assist valve with a redesigned, shorter valve. What should you do? Take no action at this time. Peterbilt has initialted this recall to remedy the issue at no cost to you. Currenty, parts are unavailable to correct this condition. However, Peterbilt is required to notify customers of the existence of the identified safety defect. You will be notified by mail when the parts become available. If you had this repair performed before receiving this letter, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a prenotification remedy of the problem associated with this recall. Receipts for parts and/or labor are required for consideration of reimbursement. Contact your local Peterbilt dealership for details. Safety Recall
– Hill Start Assist (HSA) Valve Clearance – NHTSA ID: 21V-648, TC: 2021-521. Crossmember mounted Hill Start Assist valve may not have sufficient clearance to the rear axle, resulting in hose or fitting damage. Damage could cause the loss of rear brake signal, resulting in reduced braking capability and increasing the risk of a crash. A new valve with a different orientation will be installed to improve clearance. The bulletin has been updated with parts and repair information.
Introduction
Peterbilt has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model 367, 389, 567, and579 vehicles manufactured from 12/01/2020 through 06/29/2021 and equipped with crossmember mounted Hill Start Assist valve.
Situation
201 (163 – US and 38 – Canadian) MY2021 and MY2022 model 367, 389, 567, and 579 chassis manufactured from12/01/2020 through 06/29/2021 and equipped with Hill Start Assist.
Resolution
Safety Recall
Service all chassis affected that enter your dealership, even if the customer has no issue with the chassis.
1.
Review the att ached chassis list for your dealer code and schedule your customer(s) for service if their chassis is on the list.
2.
If you are not using Service Management to start repair orders, review SIR for “Complete” or “In Process”next to the “21PBJ” campaign code prior to performing this repair.
3.
Follow the procedures below to R&R the hill start assist valve.

Warranty
There is no time or mileage limit for this recall. Peterbilt will pay for parts at dealer net plus applicable mark-up and labor:
0.7 hours labor to R&R the crossmember mounted HSA valve. (Use Quick Claim Code 21PBJ).
File an additional claim for extraordinary circumstances. A quick claim for standard labor must be filedfirst.
Take-Off Parts Disposition:
Destroy take-off parts 30 days after claim is paid.
