) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Mack
MD vehicles. The cotter pin that retains the brake pedal clevis pin may not have been properly installed, which could result in an unsecured brake pedal.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the cotter pin installation and repair it as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on September 13, 2021. Owners are advised to not drive their vehicles until the remedy has been performed. Owners may contact Mack

) is recalling certain 2020 through 2022 MD model vehicles manufactured from November 18, 2019 through August 31, 2021. The cotter pin that retains the brake pedal clevis pin may not have been properly installed.
If the cotter pin comes out, the clevis pin may work loose, which can affect the operation of the brake pedal and the ability to stop the vehicle. This presents a risk of a vehicle crash. Mack
has not received any reports of vehicle crashes.
Out of an abundance of caution, the owner letter will request customers to park these vehicles until they are inspected and cleared or repaired.
The cotter pin will be inspected and repaired if needed.

- The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act requires dealers to ensure that all new and used vehicles are free of safety defects and comply with all relevant safety standards at the time of delivery to the consumer.
- Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before releasing it to a customer.
- Due to nature of this issue, we request that dealers with the ability send technicians to customer locations in order to perform the recall as quickly as possible. This activity will be compensated by the recall.

Mack
has determined that certain model years 2020 through 2022 Mack
Medium Duty (“MMD”) vehicles, may have improper installation of the cotter pin that retains the brake pedal clevis pin. If the cotter pin comes out, the clevis pin may work loose, which can affect the operation of the brake pedal and the ability to stop the vehicle. This presents a risk of a vehicle crash.
Mack Trucks
has not received any complaints or reports of vehicle crashes because of this possible safety concern.
To ensure that these vehicles meet Mack
’s stringent quality requirements, an inspection of the securing hardware is required.

Repair Instructions
- Park the vehicle on a level surface.
- Apply the parking brake.
- Place the gear lever in neutral.
- Install the wheel chocks.
- Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal
- Remove the screws.
- Remove the panel.
- Remove the screw.
- Remove the panel.
- Remove the screws.
- Remove the panel.
- Inspect the service brake pedal hardware, Clevis Pin (#1) and Split Pin (#2), for proper installation.
a. If incorrect installation, missing hardware, or the split pin not adequately spread is found report this quality issue; by open an E-Service Case to Reliability Department using the Recall Number SC0429 in the title. A picture of the quality issue found is required.
b. If installation of brake pedal is correct, continue with reassemble. No E-Service to Reliability is needed.
- Replace any missing hardware and ensure the Split Pin (#2) is spread to 70 degrees (as seen in image above).
- Install the panel.
- Install the screws.
- Torque tighten the screws.
- Install the panel.

Warranty News
Thank you for your prioritized actions which have already addressed 60% of the recall population. Please review the following pointers intended to support you in our continued, joint efforts to reach 100% completion:
• ***NEW*** The Uptime Dashboard now includes the current list of vehicles associated with your dealership that are awaiting completion of this recall.
o “Safety Recall SC429” tab includes remaining VIN’s with “In-Service” status, customer name, and address of last known location.
o The list can be easily downloaded into Excel by right-clicking on the dashboard report.
o Completed vehicles will be removed from the list every Tuesday and Thursday.
• Recalled vehicles must remain parked until they are inspected and either cleared or repaired.
• Vehicles must have this recall completed before they can be registered “In-Service.” Reference Warranty Operations Manual (WOM) 4.3.9.2.
• Compensation for the costs of performing this recall includes:
o Inspection and Repair – Reference Safety Recall Service Instructions.
o Road Service – Travel time at dealer’s labor rate and service vehicle mileage.
▪ File under “Other Costs” on the Campaign claim.
o Towing – Towing cost and sublet fee to nearest authorized repair facility.
▪ File under “Other Costs” on the Campaign claim.
• Claims must be submitted within 2 days of inspection/repair completion. Reference WOM 4.3.9.2.
• The “Owner Recall Authorization and Release Form” is posted in WOM 4.3.9.2 for any customers who prefer to inspect/repair the truck themselves.
