Summary
Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2022 Scope and Rize motorhomes. The LP gas line may be too short and improperly installed, creating an excessive bend in the line which could rupture and leak.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the LP gas line and reroute it as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 23, 2021. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. TMC’s number for this recall is RC000243.

Issue:
On certain model year 2022 Rize & Scope motorhomes, the LP hose between the solenoid valve and LP regulator was improperly installed at a 90-degree angle. In addition, the LP hose that was installed during production is too short and is causing the bend in the LP hose to become more prominent. Due to the bend in the line, the LP hose could rupture and possibly lead to a leak in the LP hose. This could cause a fire, which could result in serious injury or death.
Parts Needed:
- Drill/Screw Gun
- Self-Tapping Screws Parts Required:
- TMC Recall Part #0513655 – 54” LP Hose
- Shop Supplies o P-clamps (as needed) o Pipe Dope / Teflon Tape
*NOTE- Please be sure to include cost of shop supplies (i.e. p-clamps) during claim process
Instructions: IMPORTANT! – Be sure to turn off LP before starting repair process.
Examples of Improperly Installed LP Hose
- Remove the existing p-clamps.
- Loosen the fittings where the hose goes into the tank and where the hose goes into the regulator.
- Remove the LP hose.
- Install the new, longer hose (54”) in the same way as the old one.
- Ensure the hose sweeps where the fittings go into the regulator and tank.
- Be sure to keep hose clear of any sharp edges.
- Perform LP test to ensure everything is installed and working properly.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Thor Motor Coach (TMC) has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model year 2022 Rize and Scope motorhomes. As a result, TMC is conducting a safety recall. We apologize for any inconvenience this action may cause you; however your safety and continued satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us.
Reason for this recall
It has been discovered that on certain model year 2022 18M Rize and Scope motorhomes, the LP hose between the solenoid valve and LP regulator was improperly installed at a 90-degree angle. In addition, the LP hose that was installed during production is too short and is causing the bend in the LP hose to become more prominent. Due to the bend in the line, the LP hose could rupture and possibly lead to a leak in the LP hose. This could cause a fire, which could result in serious injury or death.
What we will do
TMC has contacted your selling dealer and has instructed them on how to remove the current LP hose and properly install a longer LP hose. This will be done at no cost to you the owner. The remedy should take approximately up to 75 minutes to perform.

Chronology :
8/25/2021 – TMC was notified by an authorized service center that four units were experiencing LP line failures. They were occurring between the solenoid valve and LP regulator.
8/25/2021- 9/20/2021 – TMC conducted investigations in the field and in production to determine the cause of the failures and if similar units were experiencing similar issues.
9/21/2021 – TMC Safety Committee met and determined that a recall was required to correct the issue.

The required action is to remove the current LP hose and properly install a longer LP hose. The remedy should take approximately up to 75 minutes to perform. Dealers that have stock units impacted by this recall can access the full list of affected VINs sold to their dealership by accessing the “Service Campaign” portion of the TMC Advantage Web Portal. If any unit on this list has been retail sold you are asked to notify the retail owner as soon as possible of this recall because their vehicle was not registered at the time the retail notice was mailed. Please immediately register any retail sold units on this list. As a reminder, you are required by law to complete this recall on any stock units in inventory prior to retail sale. Any vehicle lessor receiving this notice must forward a copy to the lessee within 10 days.
