Summary
Tiffin Motorhomes, Inc. (Tiffin) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Phaeton recreational vehicles. During manufacturing, an electrical outlet was not installed as intended, resulting in an open electrical wire inside the wall.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the vehicle and install an outlet on the wire, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2021. Owners may contact Tiffin customer service at 1-256-356-8661. Tiffin’s number for this recall is TIF-119.

RECALL INSPECTION AND REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS

Models Involved: 2021 and 2022 Phaeton 40 IH model motorhomes only with either a Booth dinette option or a U-shaped dinette option in the front passenger slide out built between May 26, 2021 and September 28, 2021.
Purpose: To provide instructions on how to add a missing outlet to the Romex wire in the dinette box.

Utility Knife
Drill
Phillips Bit
Square Bit
Multimeter
Slater “SCD” Installation Tool
PARTS NEEDED:
Outlet – Tiffin part # 9196 or
5014148 or 9199 or 9198
Two 2” Screws
FLAT RATE CODES AND TIMES
When filing the warranty claim for payment please use the following flat rate codes and times.
If the outlet is installed, please use code PH9849RC01, for 0.25 hours If the outlet is not installed, use PH9850RC01, for 1 hour
INSPECTION PROCEDURE:
- Inspect to see if there is a wire with an outlet attached coming out of the main wall of the dinette slideout. This will be located underneath the left side of the booth dinette or the ushaped dinette. The left side of the booth or u-shaped seat will have to be removed to achieve this.
- Once the top of the dinette seat is removed, insert your hand into the cabinet access opening. If there is an outlet mounted in the main wall in the left bottom of that cabinet, the unit is good and needs no further action. If the wall is smooth and there is not an outlet coming out of the main wall, proceed to Repair Procedure below.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
- Proceed by cutting off the breaker feeding power to the box. This should be labeled “ENTRMNT” and is located in the load center which is located in the closet towards the driver side of the coach or above the rear toilet in the overhead cabinet (there are optional locations for the load center).
- Remove the left side furniture piece from the dinette box.
- Locate the access opening in the cabinet behind the dinette. Using a utility knife, cut a square of paneling off of the main wall in the left corner behind the cabinet access hole.
- Using the Slater “SCD” installation tool, add a self-contained outlet to the end of the Romex. (The color does not matter, and this can be a single or a double receptacle.)
- After installing the outlet, reinstall the dinette and secure the outlet with 2” screws to the exterior TV cover cabinet. (This can also be mounted in the cabinet itself if an outlet size hole is cutout.)
Chronology :
Problem was found on 9/28/2021 while trouble shooting a separate issue. The electrical engineer noticed there was an outlet missing. Investigated and found problem with change of blueprint 5/26/20. From that time till now, the outlet was not being put in and wire not being connected. Notified Safety committee 10/4/2021. Safety committee voted 10/06/2021 to do recall.
