Stove Saddle Valves May Leak Gas

Summary
Nexus RV’s, LLC (Nexus) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Nexus Bentley
, Bentley Diamond, Evoque, Ghost, Maybach, Wraith, Phantom, Triumph, and Viper recreational vehicles, built on International or Ford chassis. These vehicles are equipped with certain Dometic 3-burner cooking stoves. The saddle valve securing bolt may be overtightened, possibly damaging the o-ring seal and causing a continuous gas leak.
Remedy
Nexus will work with Dometic, who will install a remedy kit of gaskets, washers, thread locker bolts, and two round orange labels, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 10, 2021. Owners may contact Nexus customer service at 1-574-970-0848.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Nexus has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2018 through 2020, manufactured with the Dometic S31, R1731 or R2131 propane-cooking stove.
Reason for this recall
An odor of gas near the stove may be detected when not in operation. If user attempts to tighten the bolt for the stove’s valve in order to stop the smell, they could over-tightened the bolt and cause damage to a seal. This can result in a continuous gas leak. A propane gas leak could create risk of a fire or explosion.
Recall Remedy

What we need you to do
Please read the enclosed information from Dometic carefully and confirm the model and serial number of the cooking stove in your recreational vehicle. If the model and serial number is included in the Dometic recall population, please call a Nexus RVs dealer as soon as possible and set an appointment for the Recall Remedy. The repair will take approximately 1 hours.
DO NOT USE YOUR STOVE IF IN THE AFFECTED POPULATION.
When inspection does NOT find a recalled cooking stove, please complete and return the Compliance Reply Form to Nexus RVs so we can update our records.
Federal regulations require that any vehicle lessor receiving this recall notice must forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten days.
If you had this repair completed prior to receipt of this recall notice, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy of the problem associated with this recall.
If you take your recreational vehicle to your dealer on the agreed service date and the dealer does not remedy this condition on that date or within three {3) days, please contact our Customer Service Department. 20E071 Recall Remedy – Manifold Bolt and Valve Seal Replacement

CHRONOLOGY OF EVENTS LEADING TO DEFECT DETERMINATION
Nexus RV’s LLC has used and installed a series of “cooktop stoves” built by Dometic Corporation since May 2018 identified as “S31, R1731 and R2131 Series” “cooking stoves”. This product has been slowly introduced into the RV market in place of older platforms that Dometic manufactured in Greenbrier Tennessee.
The S31, R1731 and R2131 series products are partially manufactured in China by Seven Universe
Industrial Company Ltd. Seven Universe manufactured the manifold and saddle valve sub-assembly in China before sending it to the United States for final stove assembly in Dometic’s Greenbrier, Tennessee factory. In the design and development of the S31. R1731 and R2131 series “cooking stoves”, samples were submitted to Canadian Standards Association and tested to the industry safety standard for cooking appliances for recreational vehicles, ANSI Z21.57 for Safety Certification. All tests for the design passed ALL of the safety criteria of this standard, and CSA Certification was granted prior to these models ever going into production. The product is marked with the CSA Certification logo.
The S31, R1731 and R2131 series “cooking stoves” went into production and started coming off of the production line in Greenbrier in May of 2018. Production lines at both Seven Universe in Ningbo, China and Dometic Greenbrier, Tennessee conducted gas leak tests according to the terms and production testing requirements of the CSA Certification. Therefore, the two factories involved in the manufacture of these “cooking stoves” were conducting gas leak tests on the product before they shipped.
September 28th 2020 Dometic issued a recall letter, and after that date came out to our facility and reworked all cooktops that we had installed in our units. And they reworked all cooktops that they sold to us after that date.
December 16, 2020, Nexus RV supplied Dometic with a list of affected units. Also, Verified Dometic came to our facility and applied the remedy to the affected units that we had at our facility. They also applied the remedy to the rest of the inventory that we had received.
May 12, 2021 NHTSA notified Nexus RV Service and Warranty that as a manufacture we would be required to file our own Recall. Service received further clarification and direction to File the Report.
In June through September 2021 Nexus RV worked to make the required letters and notifications to setup and gather the updated information to complete the filing with as much information about the affected population of units from Dometic.
October 7, 2021 Nexus RV filed the Initial Recall Filling with NHTSA
November 5, 2021 Nexus requested sample of Recall Documents to be uploaded for approval from NHTSA before they can send them out. And prepared Chronology requirements for approval.
