Broken Shaft Seal May Cause Loss of Power Steering

Summary
Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Essex, 2020-2022 King Aire and London Aire motorhomes. A machining defect may cause pressure to build in the power steering pump and break the shaft seal, resulting in a loss of power steering assist.
Remedy
On behalf of Newmar Corporation, Shyft Group will inspect the pump serial number, and replace the power steering pump if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on December 22, 2021. Owners may contact Newmar’s customer service at 1-800-731-8300.

Chronology :
Newmar was notified via e-mail on 10/14/2021 by The Shyft Group that certain chassis supplied by Spartan RV Chassis could have problem with the power steering pump. Newmar has decided this is a safety issue and is filing 10/19/2021. Dealer/Customer letters will be mailed out on or before 12/18/2021.
