2. Use a 3/4-inch pipe plug to plug unused supply port (Port 1). Apply SAE-standard, DOT-approved paste-type thread sealant to all pipe threads beyond the first two threads. Pipes with pre-applied thread sealant may also be used.
3. Rotate and tighten the ECU/single modulator valve assembly until the exhaust port faces down and the connection is secure. Use a torque wrench or ratchet with extension at the 3/4-inch pipe plug installed on the front supply port (Port 1).
6.2.2 Bracket-Mounted to Cross Member of Vehicle (2S/1M Standard)
1. Install a 3/4-inch NPT fitting in supply port (Port 1). Use a 3/4-inch pipe plug to plug unused supply port (Port 1).
- Use a 3/4-inch pipe plug to plug unused supply port (Port 1). Apply SAE-standard, DOT-approved sealing paste to either the first few threads or over the whole length. Pipes with pre-applied thread sealant may also be used.
2. Locate a position for mounting the assembly to the vehicle cross member midway between the side rails, close to the brake chambers the valve serves.
- Drill two 3/8-inch mounting holes. The distance between the two holes (O.D.) must be 3-25/32-inches (96 mm) and mount directly to the cross member.
OR
- Build a mounting bracket with two 3/8-inch mounting holes spaced 3-25/32-inches (96 mm) O.D. apart.
3. Use two 3/8-inch Grade 8 bolts with prevailing torque nuts and washers to attach assembly to the vehicle cross member. Tighten bolts to 20 lb-ft (27 Nโขm).
6.2.3 Mounted to Cross Member of Vehicle โ 2S/2M, 4S/3M Standard and Premium Mounting Bracket Not Supplied
1. Install a 3/4-inch NPT fitting in supply port. Use a 3/4-inch pipe plug to plug unused supply port (Port 1).
- Apply SAE-standard, DOT-approved sealing paste to either the first few threads or over the whole length. Pipes with pre-applied thread sealant may also be used.
2. Locate a position for mounting the assembly to the vehicle cross member midway between the side rails, close to the brake chambers the valve serves.
- Drill two 3/8-inch mounting holes. The distance between the two holes (O.D.) must be 3-13/16-inches (97.2 mm) and mount directly to the cross member.
OR
- Build a mounting bracket with two 3/8-inch mounting holes spaced 3-13/16-inches (97.2 mm) O.D. apart.
3. Connect the air lines to the ports. Follow the label markers installed when the air lines were disconnected.
4. Connect the sensor cables, external relay valve cable (if used), and power cable to the ECU/Valve Assembly. Use the black protective connector caps included with the replacement assembly to cover unused cable connections.
5. Perform End of Line Check before returning the trailer to service.
7 End of Line Testing
End of line testing is required on all iABS installations. To run these tests, WABCO recommends you use TOOLBOX PLUSโข Software.
TOOLBOX PLUSโข Software and general test procedures are included in this manual.
7.1 End of Line Testing Procedure Using TOOLBOX PLUSโข Software (All Installations)
1. Connect the PLC diagnostic adapter to the J560 adapter and the USB cable to the computer with the WABCO TOOLBOX PLUSโข Software.
Refer to the Software Ownerโs Manual, OM1618, for instructions for running TOOLBOX PLUSโข Software. The manual can be found at www.wabco-auto.com in the literature section.
2. Open the iABS Diagnostics from the TOOLBOX PLUSโข Main Screen.
3. Verify power supply:
- Apply 12 (9.5 to 14 is acceptable) volts DC to the blue wire (constant power). Check the screen for the correct voltage it is displayed in the Primary Voltage field.

WABCO has initiated a recall of the subject iABS-2M units. Our records indicate that certain of these iABS-2M units may have been shipped to you.
What products are affected?
| Brand | Model | P/N |
| WABCO Trailer Anti-Lock Braking System | iABS-2M | 400 500 420 0 (standard) |
| WABCO Trailer Anti-Lock Braking System | iABS-2M | 400 500 430 0 (premium) |
What is the problem?
Enclosed is a copy of WABCOโs amended Part 573 Defect Information Report, which was submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on October 26, 2021. As more fully described in the Defect Information Report, under-torqued screws on the iABS-2M could back out over time and result in a potential loss of service braking or loss of control pressure during operation for trailers connected to the iABS-2M unit. This loss of service braking or loss of control pressure may increase the risk of a vehicle crash.
What should you do?
Enclosed is a list of iABS-2M units that our records indicate were shipped to you.
- Product Remaining in Your Inventory: If any of the recalled units remain in your inventory, please contact the WABCO Customer Center at (855)-228-3203 to arrange for return of the units for credit. Federal law prohibits delivery of these iABS-2M units, or vehicles equipped with these iABS-2M units, under a sale or lease until this condition has been remedied.
- Products You Sold to Other Resellers: If you sold the recalled units to reselling customers, you must forward a copy of this letter and enclosed โowner letterโ to them within five (5) business days of receipt.
- Products You Installed or Sold to Vehicle Owners: You must immediately check your sale records to identify any purchasers of the recalled units and send those purchasers a copy of the enclosed NHTSA-approved owner letter. Alternatively, you may send the purchasersโ contact information and, where applicable, the associated vehicle model identification and VINs, to WABCO so that can notify them directly.

***IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL***
NHTSA Recall No. 21E-090
WABCO Campaign #TP19118
[Date]
Dear WABCO Customer:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
WABCO USA LLC has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain iABS-2M trailer ABS units that were manufactured between September 19, 2019 and October 6, 2021. WABCO has initiated a recall of the subject iABS-2M units.
What products are affected?
| Brand | Model | P/N |
| WABCO Trailer Anti-Lock Braking System | iABS-2M | 400 500 420 0 (standard) |
| WABCO Trailer Anti-Lock Braking System | iABS-2M | 400 500 430 0 (premium) |
What is the problem?
Screws securing the bracket cover and end cover of affected iABS units may have been under torqued, creating the potential for the screws to back out over time. If this occurs, there could be a loss of pressure inside the unit, resulting in a potential loss of service braking or loss of control pressure during operation for a trailer connected to the iABS without warning. A loss of service braking or control pressure for a trailer may increase the risk of a vehicle crash.
What Are We Doing About the Problem?
To correct this issue, WABCO has released field safety campaign #TP19118, โiABS Part Replacement.โ WABCO will inspect your trailerโs iABS to ensure that the bracket and end covers are properly secured. iABS units with under-torqued screws will be replaced. This campaign is currently available at WABCO Distributors and authorized Warranty Dealers. The repair will be completed free of charge, and most applications will require approximately 2.5 hours to complete (0.5 hours for the serial number inspection, and 2.0 hours to replace the iABS, if required).
What should you do?
Contact the nearest WABCO Distributor or authorized Warranty Dealer to arrange to have this campaign performed on your iABS. The distributor or dealer will work with you to schedule the best date to compete this repair.
Federal law requires vehicle lessors receiving this recall notice to forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten (10) days.
Who Should You Contact If You Have Further Questions or Concerns?
If you have any additional questions regarding this recall, please contact your local WABCO Distributor or authorized Warranty Dealer. You may also contact the WABCO Customer Care Center at 1-855-228-3203.

Chronology :
On August 17, 2021, during an internal audit process, WABCO detected that the rework / re-insertion logic at a work station in its North Charleston assembly plant was incorrect. The logic forced the assembly tool at the station to drive self-tapping screws on the iABS bracket cover and end cover to a final torque that was below the design requirement. WABCO immediately contained potentially affected parts and initiated an investigation. WABCO concluded that additional screws may have been affected, contacted customers that were shipped potentially affected parts, and continued its investigation. On October 22, 2021, WABCO made the decision to submit a Part 573 report to NHTSA based on available information. To date, WABCO has received no warranty claims or reports of accidents or injuries related to this condition.
