Child Seat Canopy Support May Pose Choking Hazard

A detached piece of plastic can present a choking hazard to a child, increasing the risk of injury.

Summary

Clek, Inc. (Clek) is recalling certain Liing, model number LG19U1, and Liingo, model number LGO20U1, infant child seats manufactured before September 15, 2020. A small plastic portion of the child seat canopy support may break and detach from the seat.

 

Remedy

Clek will provide a replacement canopy support along with instructions on how to replace it, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed in January 2022. Owners may contact Clek customer service at 1-866-656-2462.

Removing/Installing Canopy Rod

 

REMOVING CANOPY ROD

Step 1

Extend canopy: Grasp zipper tab and unzip canopy extension, then grasp front of Canopy and pull it forward.

 

Step 2

Locate canopy rod in canopy hub and gently pull up at the base to remove it from the canopy hub, as shown in Figure 1. Repeat on the other side.

 

Step 3

Remove canopy rod from canopy sleeve by pulling gently.

 

INSTALLING CANOPY ROD

Step 1

Position canopy rod so that the ends are facing away from you and curving up, as shown in Figure 2.

 

Step 2

Use right hand to pick up the right side of the canopy rod and insert end through bottom of elastic loop on the left side of canopy, as shown in Figure 3.

 

Step 3

Insert end of canopy rod into canopy sleeve, as shown in Figure 4.

Push canopy rod through canopy sleeve until the end of the canopy rod comes out the other side. If the canopy fabric bunches, it may be necessary to slide the canopy fabric along the canopy rod from the top of the canopy as the canopy rod reaches the right side of the canopy.

 

Step 4

Insert end of canopy rod through top of elastic loop on right side of canopy, and even the canopy rod out.

 

Step 5

Insert end of canopy rod into hole in canopy hub and push down to make sure it is fully seated, as shown in Figure 5. Repeat on other side.

 

Step 6

Check to make sure that both ends of canopy rod are through the elastic below the canopy sleeve on each side of the canopy, and fully inserted into the hole in the canopy hub.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

 

Clek Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in Clek Liing and Liingo Infant Car Seats manufactured prior to September 15, 2020.

 

Clek Liing infant car seat affected:

 

Model Numbers: LG19U1

Production Dates: 03/27/2019 – 09/14/2020

 

Clek Liingo infant car seat affected:

 

Model Numbers: LGO20U1

Production Dates: 05/20/2020 – 09/14/2020

 

Description of the safety defect:

Clek Inc. has determined that the canopy stay (clear plastic rod that runs through the center of the canopy) can break under extreme load and leave behind a small plastic part, which an infant could put into their mouth posing a potential choking hazard.

 

There have been no reports of choking or injury.

 

This issue does NOT affect the ability of the child restraint system to protect the occupant in the event of a motor vehicle crash.

 

Remedy of the safety defect:

Clek will be voluntarily providing a replacement canopy stay made of a stronger material.  

 

It is safe to use your car seat while waiting to receive a kit to fix the issue. However, Clek strongly recommends checking the existing canopy stay to ensure it is not broken.

 

Clek will notify all registered owners of affected car seats. This notice will explain the issue and include instructions for how to get a free kit to fix the issue.
