This is to inform you that your vehicle may have a defect that could increase the risk of fire due to a potential leak or mist of fuel near an ignition source, which could result in an unexpected injury, crash or damage to your vehicle. Federal law requires the Recall Remedy completed on this unit prior to customer delivery. What is the issue?: In certain Cummins X12 Diesel Engines, the fuel tubes may be susceptible to cracking, resulting in a high pressure fuel leak. Due to the location of the leak, we have a risk of fire therefore, Rosenbauer America is recalling certain fire trucks of the following make-models for 2018- 2020 chassis that have the recalled X12 diesel engine: Rosenbauer Commanders and Warriors as well as Commercial 114SD. The Cummins engines were installed in our production facility from May 2021 to December 2021. How do I know if my truck has this type of equipment? Rosenbauer has worked with Cummins to reconcile the recalled engine serial number to the truck’s VIN. If you have received this letter, we believe the VIN listed above has the recalled engine. However, we request that you verify the engine serial number (ESN) and contact us immediately if the engine serial number listed here is incorrect. Please also check for any diesel fuel leaks and if you see or smell any, contact us and your authorized Cummins service provider so you can get it resolved immediately. How do I resolve this important safety recall? Contact your local authorized Cummins service provider or distributor to schedule the inspection of your recalled engine. You should plan on the initial inspection and repair to take 1-2.5 hours . Even though Cummins is expecting less than 1% of engines to be defective, please keep in mind that if the inspection proves that there is a defect, then your Cummins service provider will need to request replacement parts which could put your truck out of service until new parts can be shipped and installed. We don’t expect this to happen very often but it is a variable to plan for so please make sure Cummins is aware that this is for an emergency vehicle. They will need your truck’s Engine Serial Number which is located at the top of this letter by your VIN as well as your mileage. Once your truck has been inspected, we ask that you either fill out and mail back the postcard included in this letter (postage is prepaid) or email the same information to us at [email protected]. That way we can keep track of the trucks that have been inspected for our reporting to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. What if I already paid to have this repair completed: Contact Rosenbauer and your Rosenbauer Dealer with the details of the repair as well as a proof of service from Cummins or your Cummins service provider. Once we have received proof of completion, we will mark your truck as having been remedied. What if I no longer own this truck: please contact Rosenbauer to provide the new owner information. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : Fuel leaks may be detected during maintenance. Drivers should alert Rosenbauer if they smell fuel or observe a mist due to the fuel leak. The internal departments were alerted and preliminary data collection started. On 12/14/2021, Rosenbauer shared the appropriate VINs tied to Cummins Engine Serial Numbers. On 12/16/2021, we contacted our local Cummins service providers to address the trucks shipping in December that are in Production. We have alerted our production facilities and provided them with a list of known recalled engines that we received from Cummins. Remedies for Production trucks started on 12/17 and will continue through January as repair parts and technicians become available. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : All parts and labor to perform the remedy will be provided to our customers and dealers free of charge. Cummins will perform the remedy per a list provided by Rosenbauer and inform Rosenbauer date of remedy completion. The remedy program will start as soon as parts are available to make the repairs. According to Cummins, for engines having less than 75 miles, vibration isolators will be added to the fuel tubes. For engines having more than 75 miles, the recalled fuel tubes will be replaced and vibration isolators will be added. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The difference will be if the remedied engine has vibration isolators as both remedies include installing those.
