Describe the safety risk: A cracked brake drum may compromise the vehicles braking capabilities potentially leading to a crash. Identify any warning which can precede or occur: Drivers may hear noise when applying and releasing brakes. If applicable, identify the manufacture of the defective or noncompliant component.: The defective components are drums combined with a specific brake hub. Accuride Corporation is the manufacturer of the drums, which at NHTSA’s request is hereby added to the Part 573 report. On August 31st, 2021, DTNA received a 2nd field report of brake drum and opened an investigation to determine the suspect population that was affected. Further investigation indicated the reported cracked drums were incompatible with the specs of its wheel hub. DTNA continued to analyze warranty claims and manufacturing data until February 23, 2022, at which time DTNA determined a population suspected of having incompatible drum/hubs. At that time, DTNA promptly decided to conduct a voluntary safety recall. Identify the Remedy Describe the defect/noncompliance remedy program, including the manufacture’s plan for reimbursement. Dealers will inspect vehicle drum/hubs and replace brake drums as necessary, free of charge. Repairs will be performed by Daimler Truck North America authorized service facilities. Daimler Truck North America shall be offering a refund for owner-paid repairs covered by this recall if the repair was performed prior to the date indicated in the reimbursement plan, which will be posted with owner’s notification letter.
