Summary
Marion Body Works Inc. (Marion Body Works) is recalling one 2018 International
SR525 emergency vehicle equipped with feature codes 12VXT or 12VXU. With the parking brake applied and the automatic transmission in the ‘Drive’ or ‘Reverse’ position, and when the stationary PTO switch is engaged by the operator, the engine RPM will ramp up and may overcome the parking brake’s ability to hold the vehicle.
Remedy
Marion Body Works will update the Engine Control Module to enable the PTO neutral interlock, free of charge. The affected vehicle is within manufacturer’s control, and therefore no owner notification letter will be mailed. Owners may contact Marion’s customer service at 1-715-754-5261. Marion’s number for this recall is 19V-841.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Important Safety Recall Information – Recall Number: 22V-172
Marion Body Works was notified of a recall issued by Navistar
which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2018 and 2019 Durastar and WorStar model trucks and certain 2019 and 2020 HVand MV series trucks build 01/12/2017 thru 09/24/2019 with feature code 12VXT (Engine Speed Control; Electronic, Stationary, Variable Speed) or 12VXU (Engine Speed Control for PTO; Electronic, Stationary Pre-Set, Two Speed Settings).
Noncompliance Description:
On certain trucks equipped with an automatic transmission, if the automatic transmission is still in drive or reverse position and the stationary PTO switch is engaged, the engine RPM will ramp up and may overcome parking brake hold capability resulting in possible vehicle movement.
Unexpected movement of the truck can increase the risk of a crash resulting in property damage or personal injury.
This chassis is still under the possession of Marion Body Works.
As of March 30, 2022 this chassis has been repaired per the instructions provided by Navistar
.
Sincerely,
Quality & Continuous Improvement Manager
Chronology :
- 8/29/2019 – Navistar

Involved Components : Component Name 1 : ECM Software Component Description : PTO Neutral Interlock Component Part Number : NA Supplier Identification : Component Manufacturer Name : Navistar Address : 2701 Navistar Drive Lisle Illinois 60532 Country : United States Chronology : •08/29/2019 – Navistar receives communication from a field service representative that was able to ramp up the engine throttle with the steering wheel switches when the transmission was in gear and the parking brake applied on HV model vehicles. •09/06/2019 – Navistar initiates investigation to analyze and understand the issue. •9/10/2019 – Navistar quarantines suspect vehicles at all assembly plants and updates Power Train Data Base (PTDB) calibration for feature codes 12VXT or 12VXU that enables the PTO neutral interlock. •09/25/2019 – Navistar begins building vehicles with a new calibration. •10/08/2019 – Navistar determines a potential suspect population, strictly based on the suspect codes mentioned above while Navistar continues to investigate the issue. •10/17/19 – Navistar’s Compliance Committee meets to discuss the investigation to date, determine the risks associated with the condition of the interlock not being enabled for feature code 12VXT or 12VXU, and if certain axle brake combinations may not cause unintended movement based on the axle and brake configuration. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-172 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 •11/7/2019 – Navistar completes the analysis on all axle brake combinations and determined the final suspect population that could be susceptible to unintended vehicle movement if the steering wheel switches were used to adjust engine speed when the vehicle was in gear. •11/14/2019 – Navistar declares a Safety Recall. Marion has received 0 warranty claims on this recall. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : •The remedy will involve updating the parameters in the Cummins’ ECM for feature codes 12VXT or 12VXU that enables the PTO neutral interlock. •Navistar’s plan for reimbursement of pre-notification remedies, on file with NHTSA and dated 10/03/2018, applies and reimbursement instructions will be included in the customer notification. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The updated PTDB calibration has the PTO neutral interlock enabled and the previous calibration did not. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : 09/10/2019 – updated PTDB calibration went into production. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : Dealer notification will occur 3/25/2022 – this truck is still owned by Marion Body Works no customer notification will need to occur. Planned Dealer Notification Date : MAR 25, 2022 – MAR 25, 2022 Planned Owner Notification Date : MAR 25, 2022 – MAR 25, 2022 * NR – Not Reported
