Summary
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2022 Surveyor travel trailers. The fresh air intake tube length may be too short, allowing it to detach and causing the burn chamber to crack.
Remedy
Dealers will install a longer fresh air intake vent tube, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 12, 2022. Owners may contact Forest River Customer Service at 1-574-642-3119 Option 2.

Disconnect the vehicles’ battery Positive and Negative, disconnect any House battery(s) Positive and Negative, if equipped with a generator ensure it is off and lastly, ensure the vehicle is disconnected from shore power. Block any tires/wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Failure to do so may result in electrocution, fire or other personal injury, property damage and/or death.
STEP 1: LOCATE THE FURNACE FLUE ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE;
STEP 2: REMOVE SIX SCREWS FROM THE FURNACE FLUE EXTERIOR (FIGURE 1);
STEP 3: USING A UTILITY KNIFE TO CUT THE SEAL AROUND THE VENT (FIGURE 1);
STEP 4: USE A 5 IN 1 PAINTERS MULTI TOOL OR A STIFF SCRAPER TO PUSH IN BEHIND THE VENT TO BREAK LOOSE THE BUTYL TAPE ALL THE WAY AROUND THE VENT;
STEP 5: TAKE CARE TO NOT DAMAGE STRIPES OR CAUSE BODY WORK, PUSH THE MULTI TOOL/SCRAPER REMOVE THEN PUSH IT IN AGAIN IN THE NEXT SPOT UNTIL BUTYL TAP IS BROKEN FREE ALL THE WAY AROUND THE VENT;
STEP 6: TAKE THE MULTI TOOK PUSH IT IN BEHIND THE VENT AND PRY OUT ON BOTH SIDES UNTIL THE VENT IS AWAY FROM THE WALL;
STEP 7: USING YOUR HANDS PULL OUT THE VENT WHILE USING A TWISTING MOTION AS THE EXHAUST FITS EXTREMELY TIGHT. DO NOT FORCE THE VENT, IT WILL COME OUT SLOWLY;
STEP 8: CLEAN CAULK AND BUTYL FROM VENT AND WALL;
STEP 9: REPLACE BUTYL ALL THE WAY AROUND THE VENT SO THERE ARE NO GAPS MAKING SURE ALL THE SCREW HOLES ARE COVERED;
STEP 10: REPLACE THE INTAKE TUBE WITH THE LONGER 052162 INTAKE TUBE;
STEP 11: PUSH THE VENT BACK ON THE FURNACE MAKING SURE INTAKE AND EXHAUST TUBES ARE ALIGNED CORRECTLY WITH THE FURNACE;
STEP 12: PUT THE SIX SCREWS BACK IN AND SEAL AROUND THE VENT MAKING SURE THERE ARE NO SEAL VOIDS;
STEP 13: CLAIM REPAIR CODE.
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements Motor Vehicle Safety Act. This notice is also sent in accordance with the requirements of the United States’ National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Forest River has decided that a defect, which relates to the motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2022 Surveyor SVT19MDBLE Travel Trailer Recreational Vehicles. This is to inform you that your vehicle may contain a defect that could affect the safety of a person.
WHAT IS THE DEFECT/NONCOMPLIANCE?
The fresh air intake tube length was not changed when the furnace was moved. The fresh air intake overlaps the intake tube by 1/4″ whereas it should be 1/2″. If the fresh air intake tube disconnects from its 1/4″ overlap, it may cause the burn chamber to crack.
EVALUATION OF THE RISK TO THE VEHICLE AND OPERATOR(S) RELATED TO THE RECALL.
If the burn chamber cracks this could expose the vehicle to excessive Carbon Monoxide, which may lead to personal injury.
WHAT IS FOREST RIVER AND OUR DEALERSHIPS GOING TO DO?
Forest River is notifying dealerships of the recall. You may have the recall corrected at any Forest River dealership. Dealers/Service Centers will install a longer air intake tube. It is preferable if you have your selling dealership perform the remedy. Forest River completely covers your cost for the remedy; you will not receive any bill of sale for anything covered under the above recall number.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
Please contact your dealer immediately and request a service appointment to schedule the free remedy. The vehicle Owner is responsible for arranging to have the work completed. Please state you have been notified by Forest River of having a recall in process for your vehicle and provide the recall number for the dealership. It is also helpful to the dealership to have a copy of this letter when you take your vehicle in for the recall remedy.

HOW LONG WILL THE REMEDY PROCESS TAKE?
The estimated time of repair is .5 hours. However, the dealership may need to keep your vehicle or schedule an appointment with you for a later date to fit into their regular service schedule.

Chronology :
On March 21, 2022, Forest River Corporate Quality Control discovered the issue during a routine audit. On March 22, 2022 through March 23, 2022, research began to identify the vehicle(s) affected.
On March 23, 2022, the manufacturing plant revised the cabinet depth so they could use the 5″ fresh air intake vent tube.
On March 25, 2022, Forest Rivers Corporate Recall Committee voted to recall.
A1 On March 26, 2022, the manufacturing plant contacted OCC to advise that four (4) VINs were mistakenly included in the scope provided by the manufacturing plant and ultimately included in the recall due to a clerical error when reviewing the manufacturing records to help OCC form the scope. On March 28, 2022, OCC removed the four (4) VINs from the recall and amended the recall scope accordingly.

The fresh air intake overlaps the intake tube by 1/4″ whereas it should be 1/2″. If the fresh air intake tube disconnects from its 1/4″ overlap, it may cause the burn chamber to crack. On March 22, 2022 through March 23, 2022, research began to identify the vehicle(s) affected. On March 23, 2022, the manufacturing plant revised the cabinet depth so they could use the 5″ fresh air intake vent tube. On March 25, 2022, Forest Rivers Corporate Recall Committee voted to recall. A1 On March 26, 2022, the manufacturing plant contacted OCC to advise that four (4) VINs were mistakenly included in the scope provided by the manufacturing plant and ultimately included in the recall due to a clerical error when reviewing the manufacturing records to help OCC form the scope. On March 28, 2022, OCC removed the four (4) VINs from the recall and amended the recall scope accordingly.
