Passenger Seats – Center Belt Buckle Replacement
DESCRIPTION
Prevost
Car (US) Inc. is recalling certain 2018 X3-45 coaches. On some vehicles, the center seatbelt buckle mounting cables were found frayed on passenger seats, exposing the cable strands.
This represents roughly half of the seating positions throughout the vehicle. Aisle side seating positions are unaffected.

Chronology :
– 2021-08-30 First field report submitted involving 3 vehicles.
– 2021-09-09 Second field report submitted involving 4 vehicles.
– 2021-12-10 Internal investigation was open to identify the root cause and if a there was a safety related issue.
– 2021-12-10 Samples were sent to passenger seat supplier for analysis.
– 2022-03-11 Seatbelt supplier send a report indicating the buckle wire frays because of excessive bending and twisting on service.
– 2022-03-22 Case was presented on Volvo
Product Safety Working Group (PSWG) to evaluate if there is a potential safety related issue.
-2022-04-01 Statistical analysis demonstrated that for MY2018 vehicle the percentages of frayed wires was significantly higher than for other MY vehicles. Also, all cases identified were produced in Prevost
factory at Plattsburgh. This lead us to conclude that the defect was for the batch produced.
– 2022-04-07 Case presented to Volvo
Product Safety Committee (PSC) during the meeting, it was concluded that there was a safety related defect and a recall is required.

Car US Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2018 X3-45 Commuter coaches. DEFECT DESCRIPTION Seatbelt buckle wires may be frayed exposing the small threads. SAFETY RISK Passengers will not have an intact seatbelt assembly available to buckle in which could increase the risk on injuries in case of crash or sudden bus deceleration. IDENTIFICATION OF ANY WARNING THAT CAN PRECEDE Seatbelt buckle wire can be inspected for fraying at an early stage of the damage. REMEDY PROGRAM Prevost
will launch a safety recall to change the seatbelt buckles on the potentially affected vehicles. Letters will be sent to owners explaining how to procced to change the buckles. This change will be done free of charge (labor and parts) for the customers. INTERIM NOTICE We are currently preparing the remedy. We will notify you again when the remedy is ready. DEFECT DESCRIPTION Center seatbelt buckle wires on some vehicles were found frayed exposing the small threads. SAFETY RISK Passengers will not have an intact seatbelt assembly available to buckle in which could increase the risk on injuries in case of crash or sudden bus deceleration. IDENTIFICATION OF ANY WARNING THAT CAN PRECEDE Seatbelt buckle wire can be inspected for fraying at an early stage of the damage. REMEDY PROGRAM Prevost
has launched a repair procedure to change all the center seatbelt buckles frayed or not, on the affected vehicles. This change will be done free of charge (labor and parts) for the customers.
