Failure to warn the driver that the collision mitigation system is not operational may increase the risk of a vehicle crash. MODELS INVOLVED This safety recall involves certain International® HV™, MV™ Series trucks and IC Bus® RE commercial buses built 26 August 2021 thru 18 March 2022 with feature code 0008TXK or 0008TXM (Bendix Wingman Prewire option) ELIGIBILITY This procedure applies ONLY to vehicles marked in the International® Service Portal5M with Safety Recall 22508. Complete the label and attach on a clean surface next to the vehicle identification number (VIN) plate. All marks are trademarks of their respective owners. 7 UNITED STATES AND POSSESSIONS The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, as amended, provides that each vehicle that is subject to a vehicle recall campaign must be adequately repaired within a reasonable time after the owner has tendered it for repair. A failure to adequately repair within 60 days after a tender of a vehicle is prima facie evidence of failure to repair within a reasonable time. If the condition is not adequately repaired within 60 days, the owner may be entitled to replacement with an identical or reasonable equivalent vehicle at no charge, or to a refund of the purchase price less a reasonable allowance for depreciation. Dealers must correct all vehicles subject to this campaign at no charge to the owner, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward. Dealers should proceed immediately to make necessary correction to units in inventory. All inventory vehicles subject to this recall campaign must be corrected prior to sale, transfer or delivery. If vehicles have been sold or transferred and you are in receipt of Customer Notification Letters and Authorization for Recall Service cards for those vehicles, the transfer location or customer must be notified immediately from your dealer location. Dealers must make every effort to promptly schedule an appointment with each owner to repair his or her vehicle as soon as possible. However, consistent with the customer notification, dealers are expected to complete the repairs on the mutually agreed upon service date. Dealers involved in the recall process will be furnished a listing of owner names and addresses to enable them to follow up with owners and have the vehicles corrected. REASON FOR THIS RECALL These vehicles may have been built without the warning label to notify the driver that the collision mitigation system is not operational. RISK TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY Failure to warn the driver that the collision mitigation system is not operational may increase the risk of a vehicle crash. DEFECT REMEDY The repair will involve installing the enclosed label on your vehicle if there is no forward radar unit installed. ACTIONS YOU SHOULD TAKE 1. Park your vehicle on a flat level surface, set the transmission to park or neutral. 2. Set the parking brake and turn ignition key to OFF position. This package contains the warning label advising the driver the collision mitigation system is not operational. • 3/28/22 Navistar engineering conducts a study to determine what warning may exist to the driver if the forward radar is missing and there is no label warning driver of this condition. • 3/29/22 Inspections completed at manufacturing facilities indicate all units onsite were correctly prepared for shipment with the warning label installed. • 4/7/22 Navistar engineering completes the study and finds normal dash warnings lamps and messages may be present to the driver indicating the collision mitigation system is not operational. • 04/14/2022 through 04/20/2022 – Navistar reviews plant shipping and inspection data to finalize the suspect population of vehicles that were potentially shipped without a warning label. • 04/21/2022 – Navistar declares a Safety Recall; the aim being to ensure the driver has multiple indications the collision mitigation system is not operational. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : • Navistar will mail the warning label with installation instructions to affected vehicle owners. • A plan for reimbursement of pre-notification remedies is not needed as all the vehicles are within their original warranty period. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The label was not installed at time of manufacture.
